Linus Torvalds 3645f0cd96 arm-soc: sparse IRQ conversion
The I.MX platform is getting converted to use sparse IRQs. We are doing
this for all platforms over time, because this is one of the
requirements for building a multiplatform kernel, and generally a good
 idea.

Andrew Lunn b61d157589 I2C: MV64XYZ: Add Device Tree support
Extends the driver to get properties from device tree. Rather than
pass the N & M factors in DT, use the more standard clock-frequency
property. Calculate N & M at run time. In order to do this, we need to
know tclk. So the driver uses clk_get() etc in order to get the clock
and clk_get_rate() to determine the tclk rate. Not all platforms
however have CLK, so some #ifdefery is needed to ensure the driver
still compiles when CLK is not available.

David Daney f353a218de i2c: Convert i2c-octeon.c to use device tree.
There are three parts to this:

1) Remove the definitions of OCTEON_IRQ_TWSI and OCTEON_IRQ_TWSI2.
The interrupts are specified by the device tree and these hard
coded irq numbers block the used of the irq lines by the irq_domain
   code.

2) Remove platform device setup code from octeon-platform.c, it is
   now unused.

3) Convert i2c-octeon.c to use device tree. Part of this includes
using the devm_* functions instead of the raw counterparts, thus
simplifying error handling. No functionality is changed.

Theodore Ts'o d38a0149e8 i2c-pmcmsp: remove IRQF_SAMPLE_RANDOM which is now a no-op
With the changes in the random tree, IRQF_SAMPLE_RANDOM is now a
no-op; interrupt randomness is now collected unconditionally in a very
low-overhead fashion; see commit 775f4b297b. The IRQF_SAMPLE_RANDOM
flag was scheduled to be removed in 2009 on the
feature-removal-schedule, so this patch is preparation for the final
removal of this flag.

Sonic Zhang 28a377c79a i2c:i2c-bfin-twi: TWI fails to restart next transfer in high system load.
Current driver was developed based on BF537 0.2 HRM. In high system load, BUFRDERR error
interrupt may be raised if XMTSERV interrupt of last TX byte is not served in time
(set RSTART bit), which breaks restart tranfer as expected.

"Buffer Read Error (BUFRDERR)" description in Blackfin HRM only applys to BF537
rev. < 0.3. In later rev. and later announced Blackfin chips, such as BF527 and
BF548, a new TWI master feature "Clock Stretching" is added into the TWI controller,
BUFRDERR interrupt is not triggered after TX FIFO is empty.

This patch sets RSTART bit at the beginning of the first transfer. The SCL and SDA
is hold till XMTSERV interrupt of last TX byte is served. Restart transfer is not broken
in high system load.

Sonic Zhang a20a64d226 i2c: i2c-bfin-twi: Improve the patch for bug "Illegal i2c bus lock upon certain transfer scenarios".

Neil Brown b4fde5e7ed I2C: OMAP: Fix timeout problem during suspend.
On a board with OMAP3 processor and TWL4030 Power management,
we need to talk to the TWL4030 during late suspend but cannot
because the I2C interrupt is disabled (as late suspend disables
interrupt).

e.g. I get messages like:

[ 62.161102] musb-omap2430 musb-omap2430: LATE power domain suspend
[ 63.167205] omap_i2c omap_i2c.1: controller timed out

[ 64.198455] twl: i2c_write failed to transfer all messages
[ 65.198455] omap_i2c omap_i2c.1: controller timed out
[ 65.203765] twl: i2c_write failed to transfer all messages

The stack shows omap2430_runtime_suspend calling twl4030_set_suspend
which tries to power-down the USB PHY (twl4030_phy_suspend ->
twl4030_phy_power -> __twl4030_phy_power which as a nice WARN_ON
that helps).

Then we get the same in resume:

[ 69.603912] musb-omap2430 musb-omap2430: EARLY power domain resume
[ 70.610473] omap_i2c omap_i2c.1: controller timed out
[ 70.626129] twl: i2c_write failed to transfer all messages
etc.

So don't disable interrupts for I2C.

Jean Delvare b37d2a3a75 [media] i2c: Export an unlocked flavor of i2c_transfer
Some drivers (in particular for TV cards) need exclusive access to
their I2C buses for specific operations. Export an unlocked flavor
of i2c_transfer to give them full control.

The unlocked flavor has the following limitations:
* Obviously, caller must hold the i2c adapter lock.
* No debug messages are logged. We don't want to log messages while
  holding a rt_mutex.
* No check is done on the existence of adap->algo->master_xfer. It
is thus the caller's responsibility to ensure that the function is
  OK to call.

Mark Brown 14674e7011 i2c: Split I2C_M_NOSTART support out of I2C_FUNC_PROTOCOL_MANGLING
Since there are uses for I2C_M_NOSTART which are much more sensible and
standard than most of the protocol mangling functionality (the main one
being gather writes to devices where something like a register address
needs to be inserted before a block of data) create a new I2C_FUNC_NOSTART
for this feature and update all the users to use it.

Also strengthen the disrecommendation of the protocol mangling while we're
at it.

In the case of regmap-i2c we remove the requirement for mangling as
I2C_M_NOSTART is the only mangling feature which is being used.

As the bus driver side implementation of I2C_M_RECV_LEN is heavily
tied to SMBus, we can't support received length over 32 bytes, but
let's at least support that.

In practice, the caller will have to setup a buffer large enough to
cover the case where received length byte has value 32, so minimum
32 + 1 = 33 bytes, possibly more if there is a fixed number of bytes
added for the specific slave (for example a checksum.)

Linus Torvalds ae32adc1e0 Merge branch 'i2c-embedded/for-next' of git://git.pengutronix.de/git/wsa/linux
Pull i2c-embedded changes from Wolfram Sang:
 "Major changes:

   - lots of devicetree additions for existing drivers. I tried hard to
make sure the bindings are proper. In more complicated cases, I
requested acks from people having more experience with them than
me. That took a bit of extra time and also some time went into
discussions with developers about what bindings are and what not.
I have the feeling that the workflow with bindings should be
improved to scale better. I will spend some more thought on
     this...

   - i2c-muxes are succesfully used meanwhile, so we dropped
EXPERIMENTAL for them and renamed the drivers to a standard pattern
to match the rest of the subsystem. They can also be used with
     devicetree now.

   - ixp2000 was removed since the whole platform goes away.

   - cleanups (strlcpy instead of strcpy, NULL instead of 0)

   - The rest is typical driver fixes I assume.

All patches have been in linux-next at least since v3.4-rc6."

Fixed up trivial conflict in arch/arm/mach-lpc32xx/common.c due to the
same patch already having come in through the arm/soc trees, with
additional patches on top of it.

Linus Torvalds b324c67d48 arm-soc: device tree conversions, part 1
The spear3xx, lpc32xx, shmobile and mmp platforms are joining the game of
booting using device trees, which is a great step forward for them. at91
and spear have pretty much completed this process with a huge amount of
work being put into at91. The other platforms are continuing the process.

We finally start to see the payback on this investment, as new machines
are getting supported purely by adding a .dts source file that can be
completely independent of the kernel source.

Merge tag 'dt' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arm/arm-soc

Pull device tree conversions for arm-soc, part 1, from Olof Johansson:
"The spear3xx, lpc32xx, shmobile and mmp platforms are joining the game
of booting using device trees, which is a great step forward for them.
at91 and spear have pretty much completed this process with a huge
amount of work being put into at91. The other platforms are
  continuing the process.

We finally start to see the payback on this investment, as new
machines are getting supported purely by adding a .dts source file
that can be completely independent of the kernel source."

This patch adds support for s3c2440 I2C bus controller dedicated HDMIPHY device on
Exynos4 platform. Some quirks are introduced due to differences between HDMIPHY
and other I2C controllers on Exynos4. These differences are:
- no GPIOs, HDMIPHY is inside the SoC and the controller is connected
  internally
- due to unknown reason (probably HW bug in HDMIPHY and/or the controller) a
transfer fails to finish. The controller hangs after sending the last byte,
the workaround for this bug is resetting the controller after each transfer

David Daney bc45449b14 i2c/of: Automatically populate i2c mux busses from device tree data.
For 'normal' i2c bus drivers, we can call of_i2c_register_devices()
and have the device tree framework automatically populate the bus with
the devices specified in the device tree.

This patch adds a common code to the i2c mux framework to have the mux
sub-busses be populated by the of_i2c_register_devices() too. If the
mux device has an of_node, we populate the sub-bus' of_node so that
the subsequent call to of_i2c_register_devices() will find the
corresponding devices.

It seemed better to put this logic in i2c_add_mux_adapter() rather
than the individual mux drivers, as they will all probably want to do
the same thing.

This causes i2c-powermac to register i2c devices exposed in the

time before resetting the controller so that STOP condition has
delivered properly on bus.

Added delay of 2 clock period before resetting the controller in case of
NACK error.

Merge tag 'split-asm_system_h-for-linus-20120328' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/dhowells/linux-asm_system

Pull "Disintegrate and delete asm/system.h" from David Howells:
"Here are a bunch of patches to disintegrate asm/system.h into a set of
separate bits to relieve the problem of circular inclusion
  dependencies.

I've built all the working defconfigs from all the arches that I can
and made sure that they don't break.

The reason for these patches is that I recently encountered a circular
dependency problem that came about when I produced some patches to
optimise get_order() by rewriting it to use ilog2().

This uses bitops - and on the SH arch asm/bitops.h drags in
  asm-generic/get_order.h by a circuituous route involving asm/system.h.

The main difficulty seems to be asm/system.h. It holds a number of
low level bits with no/few dependencies that are commonly used (eg.
memory barriers) and a number of bits with more dependencies that
aren't used in many places (eg. switch_to()).

These patches break asm/system.h up into the following core pieces:

    (1) asm/barrier.h

Move memory barriers here. This already done for MIPS and Alpha.

    (2) asm/switch_to.h

Move switch_to() and related stuff here.

    (3) asm/exec.h

Move arch_align_stack() here. Other process execution related bits
could perhaps go here from asm/processor.h.

    (4) asm/cmpxchg.h

Move xchg() and cmpxchg() here as they're full word atomic ops and
frequently used by atomic_xchg() and atomic_cmpxchg().

    (5) asm/bug.h

        Move die() and related bits.

    (6) asm/auxvec.h

        Move AT_VECTOR_SIZE_ARCH here.

Other arch headers are created as needed on a per-arch basis."

Fixed up some conflicts from other header file cleanups and moving code
around that has happened in the meantime, so David's testing is somewhat
weakened by that. We'll find out anything that got broken and fix it..

Jean Delvare 41101a3302 i2c-algo-bit: Don't resched on clock stretching
Clock stretching is not supposed to last long, so asking to be
rescheduled while waiting for the clock line to be released by a slave
makes little sense. Odds are that the clock line will long have been
released when we run again, so we will have lost time and may even
get an SMBus timeout because of this.

So just busy-wait in that case. This also participates in the effort

Linus Torvalds be53bfdb80 Merge branch 'drm-next' of git://people.freedesktop.org/~airlied/linux
Pull drm main changes from Dave Airlie:
"This is the main drm pull request, I'm probably going to send two more
  smaller ones, will explain below.

This contains a patch that is also in the fbdev tree, but it should be
the same patch, it added an API for hot unplugging framebuffer
devices, and I need that API for a new driver.

It also contains some changes to the i2c tree which Jean has acked,
and one change to moorestown platform stuff in x86.

  Highlights:
   - new drivers: UDL driver for USB displaylink devices, kms only,
     should support correct hotplug operations.
   - core: i2c speedups + better hotplug support, EDID overriding via
firmware interface - allows user to load a firmware for a broken
monitor/kvm from userspace, it even has documentation for it.
   - exynos: new HDMI audio + hdmi 1.4 + virtual output driver
   - gma500: code cleanup
   - radeon: cleanups, CS optimisations, streamout support and pageflip
     fix
   - nouveau: NVD9 displayport support + more reclocking work
   - i915: re-enabling GMBUS, finish gpu patch (might help hibernation
who knows), missed irq fixes, stencil tiling fixes, interlaced
support, aliasesd PPGTT support for SNB/IVB, swizzling for SNB/IVB,
     semaphore fixes

As well as the usual bunch of cleanups and fixes all over the place.

I've got two things I'd like to merge a bit later:

   a) AMD support for all their new radeonhd 7000 series GPU and APUs.
AMD dropped this a bit late due to insane internal review
processes, (please AMD just follow Intel and let open source guys
ship stuff early) however I don't want to penalise people who own
this hardware (since its been on sale for 3-4 months and GPU hw
doesn't exactly have a lifetime in years) and consign them to
using closed drivers for longer than necessary. The changes are
well contained and just plug into the driver new gpu functionality
so they should be fairly regression proof. I just want to give
them a bit of a run on the hw AMD kindly sent me.

   b) drm prime/dma-buf interface code. This is just infrastructure
code to expose the dma-buf stuff to drm drivers and to userspace.
I'm not planning on pushing any driver support in this cycle
(except maybe exynos), but I'd like to get the infrastructure code
in so for the next cycle I can start getting the driver support
into the individual drivers. We have started driver support for
i915, nouveau and udl along with I think exynos and omap in
staging. However this code relies on the dma-buf tree being
pulled into your tree first since it needs the latest interfaces
from that tree. I'll push to get that tree sent asap.

(oh and any warnings you see in i915 are gcc's fault from what anyone
  can see)."

Fix up trivial conflicts in arch/x86/platform/mrst/mrst.c due to the new
msic_thermal_platform_data() thermal function being added next to the
tc35876x_platform_data() i2c device function..

Ville Syrjala 8ee161ce5e i2c-algo-bit: Fix spurious SCL timeouts under heavy load
When the system is under heavy load, there can be a significant delay
between the getscl() and time_after() calls inside sclhi(). That delay
may cause the time_after() check to trigger after SCL has gone high,
causing sclhi() to return -ETIMEDOUT.

To fix the problem, double check that SCL is still low after the
timeout has been reached, before deciding to return -ETIMEDOUT.

Daniel Vetter b0209b3995 i2c: export bit-banging algo functions
i915 has a hw i2c controller (gmbus) but for a bunch of stupid reasons
we need to be able to fall back to the bit-banging algo on gpio pins.

The current code sets up a 2nd i2c controller for the same i2c bus using
the bit-banging algo. This has a bunch of issues, the major one being
that userspace can directly access this fallback i2c adaptor behind
the drivers back.

But we need to frob a few registers before and after using fallback
gpio bit-banging, so this horribly fails.

The new plan is to only set up one i2c adaptor and transparently fall
back to bit-banging by directly calling the xfer function of the bit-
banging algo in the i2c core.

To make that possible, export the 2 i2c algo functions.

v2: As suggested by Jean Delvare, simply export the i2c_bit_algo
vtable instead of the individual functions.

Oskar Schirmer bb79a0798d i2c: imx: fix imx driver to work though signal is pending
Interrupt a test application for I2C based mc13xxx driven
touch panel, SIGINT, causes open event file descriptor to be
closed, which in turn causes I2C activity to mask PMIC local
interrupts. This eventually ends up in i2c_imx_bus_busy to
wait for some busy flag to toggle, but while waiting it would
find a signal pending and break. The final symptom is the
device is not closed down cleanly and thus not reopenable.

Do without check for pending signal.

Jan Weitzel 78e1cf42ee I2C: OMAP: NACK without STP
On OMAP4 OMAP_I2C_STAT_NACK is causing a timeout on the next access.
The isr cleans all flags in OMAP_I2C_CON_REG by setting OMAP_I2C_CON_STP
OMAP_I2C_CON_STP is also set in omap_i2c_xfer_msg on the last message.

According to the TI TSR the sequence for OMAP_I2C_STAT_NACK and
OMAP_I2C_STAT_AL are nearly the same.
Removing the OMAP_I2C_CON_STP part in the isr fix the problem.
Tested on OMAP4430 and OMAP3530 (here NACK was not a problem)
Fixes also booting on 2430sdp.

Rusty Russell 90ab5ee941 module_param: make bool parameters really bool (drivers & misc)
module_param(bool) used to counter-intuitively take an int. In
fddd5201 (mid-2009) we allowed bool or int/unsigned int using a messy
trick.

It's time to remove the int/unsigned int option. For this version
it'll simply give a warning, but it'll break next kernel version.

corentin.labbe 65a2d74b76 i2c-ali1535: enable SPARC support
The i2c-ali1535 driver doesn't work on SPARC, because it assumes that
ioport address are 16-bit wide (address stored in an unsigned short).
But on SPARC arch, ioports are mapped in memory and so must be stored
in an unsigned long.

Use pci_resource_start for getting IOMEM base address, then read the
SMBBA of the i2c bus and use these together for I/O access.

I would like to thank Jean DELVARE for reviewing my patch.

some extra init to get it into I2C mode. The register moves are handled
by i2c_readl and i2c_writel

This patch adds a new compatible value for controllers of this "DVC"
type; I figured that this approach was reasonable, as opposed to adding
an is-dvc property under the existing compatible value, since the HW
truly is different.

v2: Call of_device_is_compatible() to determine is_dvc, instead of storing
the flag in tegra_i2c_of_match[]'s .data field.

Feng Tang 0d5fb5ea7d i2c-eg20t: correct the driver init order of pch_i2c_probe()
Before registering an adapter to i2c subsystem, we need make sure
driver is ready for incoming i2c xfer, becasue the i2c_add_adapter()
may trigger a i2c device driver's proble function which may start
some real i2c xfer. I met this issue when integrating a TSC2007 i2c
touch screen device with the i2c-eg20t driver.

This patch will call request_irq() and hw init before calling
i2c_add_adapter().

s3c24xx_i2c_parse_dt_gpio is called when cfg_gpio is not defined
in the platform data of the i2c device. When DT is not enabled,
the above function always returns -EINVAL. Since there can be

Always failing to register I2C buses when the line testing fails is a
little harsh. While such a failure is definitely a bug in the driver

missing initialization steps are done later, before the I2C bus is
used. So it seems a better debugging tool to just report the test
failure by default. I introduce bit_test=2 if anyone really misses the

Manuel Lauss 84785f120f i2c-au1550: increase timeout waiting for master done
Double the timeout in the loop which busy-waits for the "master-done"
bit to be set. This bit indicates whether an i2c transaction has
completed; on the DB1300 and DB1550 boards this timeout is slightly
too short and causes transactions to the WM8731 codec to be falsely flagged
as failed. The timeout itself is necessary since transactions to
non-existant slaves never set this bit in the first place (and cause
i2cdetect to hang).

With this change the WM8731 codec on the DB1300/DB1550 boards is correctly
detected and initialized.

Dirk Brandewie 2373f6b974 i2c-designware: split of i2c-designware.c into core and bus specific parts
This patch splits i2c-designware.c into three pieces:
i2c-designware-core.c, contains the code that interacts directly
     with the core.

i2c-designware-platdrv.c, contains the code specific to the
     platform driver using the core.

i2c-designware-core.h contains the definitions and declareations
     shared by i2c-designware-core.c and i2c-designware-platdrv.c.
