IMPORTANT:
The CFGFT1 Utility is not supported for
2.0.X kernels. To configure the CSU/DSU on
such kernels, please use the cpipemon
debugger. For further informatino run cpipemon
without arguments and read the help files.
Requirements
------------
1) The cfgft1 utility requires bash version 2.0 or
greater. Please install the new bash version
before proceeding.
The cfgft1 utility requires the /bin/bash2 executable.
eg: bash --version
Running FT1 Configurator
------------------------
CFGFT1 is a CSU/DSU configurator for the S508FT1 and
S514FT1 cards.
1) Get the WANPIPE wanrouter up and running using
'wanrouter start wanpipe#' command.
(Use the /usr/sbin/wancfg GUI utility
to setup the WANPIPE configuration file)
2) Once wanrouter starts up successfully,
shut it down using 'wanrouter stop wanpipe#'command
and start the /usr/sbin/cfgft1 configurator.
3) To start the cfgft1 configurator, change directory
to /usr/sbin/wanrouter and run
'/usr/sbin/cfgft1 wanpipe#' where # = 1,2,3 ...
Note: Make sure to use the same wanpipe device name as
in step 1.
IMPORTANT:
----------
2) Cfgft1 uses the lxdialog GUI libraries. The lxdialog
libraries depend on the following:
i) libtermcap-devel-2.0.8-13, or greater
ii) ncurses-devel-4.2-18, or greater
Note: These packages are usually installed by default
on Linux systems.
The above packages are located on the Sangoma ftp site:
ftp.sangoma.com: in /linux/lib/ directory.
Installing RPM's
----------------
1) Copy the RPM package into an arbitrary directory
2) run 'rpm -Uvh <package_name.rpm>' to install the package

CUSTOMIZING CFGFT1 : ADVANCED OPTIONS
=======================================
This section describes how to use the
cfgft1 components in building a customized
CSU/DSU configurator.
NOTE: This section can be skipped if one is happy with
running ./cfgft1 GUI utility.
NOTE: cpipemon debugger has the ability to configure
the CSU/DSU. However, in that case one has to load
the CHDLC protocol first. For further information
please run cpipemon without any arguments and read
the help info.
The cfgfg1 GUI utility consists of three parts:
1) /usr/sbin/cfgft1:
Shell script, written in bash version 2.
2) /usr/sbin/wanpipe_ft1exec:
C executable, that performs ioctl calls to
the FT1 driver. This program performs the
actual CSU/DSU configuration.
Syntax: (All options are mandatory)
wanpipe_ft1exec <wanpipe#> <#> <OPTIONS>
wanpipe#: Wanpipe device (ex wanpipe1, wanpipe2 ...)
0: Configuration Commands.
a) STANDARD CONFIGURATION:

Note: Auto configuration can only be used
if ENCODING is B8ZS and FRAMING is ESF.
<STANDARD CONFIGURATION OPTIONS>

wanpipe#: Wanpipe device (ex wanpipe1, wanpipe2 ...)
0: Internal wanpipe_ft1exec option that enables
Standard Configuration.
FRAMING: 0 = ESF , 1 = D4
Please select one of the above options as specified by
your FT1 provider.
ENCODING: 0 = B8ZS , 1 = AMI
Please select one of the above options as specified by
your FT1 provider.
LINE_BUILD: 0 = CSU: 0db, DSX: 0-133ft
1 = DSX: 266-399ft
2 = DSX: 399-533ft
3 = DSX: 399-533ft
4 = DSX: 533-655ft
5 = CSU -7dB
6 = CSU -15dB
7 = CSU -22.5dB
For WANPIPE FT1 Card setup, select the first option:
* CSU 0dB DSX1 0-133ft (option 0)
For any other setup, select an option as specified by
your FT1 provider.
CHANNEL: Number between 1 to 24.
Represents the first active channel.
(Default = 1)
The T1 line consists of 24 channels, each 64 or 56
Kbps. If this is a full T1 line, then the first
active channel is 1. Otherwise, set the first
active channel as specified by your FT1 provider.
BAUD: Line baud rate (speed).
For B8ZS Encoding:
Full T1 baud rate is: 1536 Kbps.
Each T1 channel runs at: 64 Kbps.
For AMI Encoding:
Full T1 baud rate is: 1344 Kbps.
Each T1 channel runs at: 56 Kbps.
Enter the speed of your connection in Kbps, as
specified by your FT1 provider.
To calculate your baud rate, find out how many
active T1 channels you have. Then multiply that
number to ether 64 (for B8ZS) or 56 (for AMI).
Note, that first active channel should be set to
1 in most cases. (Note: CHANNEL option)
CLOCK: 0 = NORMAL, 1 = MASTER
Default is always Normal.
Select clocking options as specified by your FT1
provider.
3) /usr/sbin/wanrouter:
WANPIPE startup script that is use to
startup the FT1 driver.
Configuration Process
---------------------
Make sure that all WANPIPE configuration
files have been created. Repeat these
steps for each WANPIPE FT1 CARD.
In this example I will use wanpipe1 as
a device that I want to configure.
1. Make sure that WANPIPE card can startup
properly, and that there are no configuration
or resource problems.
Start wanpipe: 'wanrouter start wanpipe1'
2. If the card loaded without any problems,
Stop wanpipe: 'wanrouter stop wanpipe1'
3. Now start the FT1 driver
'wanrouter start ft1_wanpipe1'
Note: Add "ft1_" in front of the device name.
(If we were starting up FT1 driver for wanpipe2
we would run: wanrouter start ft1_wanpipe2.)
The wanrouter script will parse the wanpipe1.conf file
and create a ft1.conf file which will be use to
startup the FT1 driver. That is why it is so important
that we test the wanpipe1.conf first.
Once the FT1 driver loads, check /var/log/messages
for "FT1 Config Ready!" message. This message indicates
that the FT1 driver is configured and ready to accept
commands.
STANDARD CONFIGURATION
----------------------
4. Now we can run the wanpipe_ft1exec application to configure
the CSU/DSU. Refer to wanpipe_ft1exec syntax above.
In this example uses STANDARD configuration.
To configure a CSU/DSU for:
* Full T1
* B8ZS Encoding and ESF Framing
wanpipe_ft1exec wanpipe1 0 0 0 0 1 1536 0
When wanpipe_ft1exec concludes the configuration, it will
clear the screen and dump its results into the FT1_CONFIG
text file.
5. Open the FT1_CONFIG text file and read out the
CSU/DSU configuration.
Example of FT1_CONFIG:
0 #FRAMING
0 #ENCODING
0 #LINE BUILD
1 #CHANNEL
1536 #BAUD RATE
0 #CLOCKING
6. To make sure that configuration took place
run a read configuration command.
wanpipe_ft1exec wanpipe2 3
When the wanpipe_ft1exec finishes, read the FT1_CONFIG
file.
AUTO CONFIGURATION
------------------
4. The T1 line must be set for B8ZS encoding and
ESF framing. Also, the WANPIPE FT1 card must
be connected.
run: wanpipe_ft1exec wanpipe2 1
After wanpipe_ft1exec finishes read the FT1_CONFIG
file for configuration results.
