= BSSMAP (11.2.0) Protocol Modules for TTCN-3 Toolset with TITAN, Function Specification

== How to Read This Document
This is the Function Specification for the set of BSSMAP (v11.2.0) protocol modules. BSSMAP protocol modules are developed for the TTCN-3 Toolset with TITAN.
== Scope
The purpose of this document is to specify the content of the BSSMAP (V11.2.0) protocol modules.
= General
Protocol modules implement the message structures of the related protocol in a formalized way, using the standard specification language TTCN-3. This allows defining of test data (templates) in the TTCN-3 language <<_2, [2]>> and correctly encoding/decoding messages when executing test suites using the TITAN TTCN-3 test environment.
Protocol modules are using TITANs RAW encoding attributes <<_3, [3]>> and hence are usable with the TITAN test toolset only.
= Functional Specification
== Protocol Version Implemented
This set of protocol modules implements protocol messages and constants of the BSSMAP protocol, version 11.2.0 (see <<_1, [1]>>).
[[modifications-deviations-related-to-the-protocol-specification]]
== Modifications/Deviations Related to the Protocol Specification
=== Implemented Messages
All BSSMAP messages listed in section 3.2 of <<_1, [1]>> are implemented, except for the ones listed in <<protocol-modifications-deviations, Protocol Modifications/Deviations>>
[[protocol-modifications-deviations]]
=== Protocol Modifications/Deviations
The following messages are not implemented:
* EMERGENCY RESET INDICATION
* EMERGENCY RESET COMMAND
Message type definitions for these messages are missing from <<_1, [1]>>.
[[encoding-decoding-and-other-related-functions]]
== Encoding/Decoding and Other Related Functions
This product also contains encoding/decoding functions that assure correct encoding of messages when sent from TITAN and correct decoding of messages when received by TITAN. Implemented encoding/decoding functions:
[cols=3*,options=header]
|===
|Name |Type of formal parameters |Type of return value
|`enc_PDU_BSSAP` |PDU_BSSAP |octetstring
|`dec_PDU_BSSAP` |octetstring |PDU_BSSAP
|`enc_PDU_BSSAP_fast` |PDU_BSSAP |octetstring
|`dec_PDU_BSSAP_backtrack` |octetstring |PDU_BSSAP
|===
== Limitations
Debug log generation is not supported when this revision of this product is used with TITAN version R7A (1.7pl0), because the encoder/decoder functions, automatically generated by TITAN version R7A (1.7pl0) do not contain logging functions. Newer versions of TITAN supports the debug logging within the automatically generated encoder/decoder functions that can be activated by allowing the `DEBUG_ENCDEC` (see Programmer's Technical Reference for TITAN TTCN-3 Test Executor, clause 6.2.3.2) in TITAN runtime configuration files.

== About This Document
=== How to Read This Document
This is the User Guide for the BSSMAP protocol module. The BSSMAP protocol module is developed for the TTCN-3 Toolset with TITAN. This document should be read together with Function Specification <<_3, [3]>>.
=== Presumed Knowledge
To use this protocol module the knowledge of the TTCN-3 language <<_1, [1]>> is essential.
The BSSMAP protocol is specified in the standard <<_4, [4]>>.
== System Requirements
Protocol modules are a set of TTCN-3 source code files that can be used as part of TTCN-3 test suites only. Hence, the BSSMAP protocol modules alone do not put specific requirements on the system used. However in order to compile and execute a TTCN-3 test suite using the set of BSSMAP protocol modules the following system requirements must be satisfied:
* TITAN TTCN-3 Test Executor version R7A (1.7.pl0) or higher installed. For installation guide see <<_2, [2]>>.
NOTE: This version of the protocol module is not compatible with TITAN releases earlier than R7A. Protocol modules described in the dependency list installed.
= Protocol Modules
== Overview
The BSSMAP protocol modules implement the messages structure of the BSSMAP protocol in a formalized way, using the standard specification language TTCN-3. This allows defining of test data (templates) in the TTCN-3 language <<_1, [1]>> and correctly encoding/decoding messages when executing test suites using the Titan TTCN-3 test environment.
The BSSMAP protocol modules are using Titans RAW encoding attributes <<_2, [2]>> and hence are usable with the Titan test toolset only.
== Installation
The set of protocol modules can be used in developing TTCN-3 test suites using any text editor. However to make the work more efficient a TTCN-3-enabled text editor is recommended (e.g. `nedit`, `xemacs`). Since the BSSMAP protocol is used as a part of a TTCN-3 test suite, this requires TTCN-3 Test Executor be installed before the module can be compiled and executed together with other parts of the test suite. For more details on the installation of TTCN-3 Test Executor see the relevant section of <<_2, [2]>>.
== Configuration
None.
== Usage with BSSAP Modules
The top-level PDU type of BSSMAP protocol module is the following:
* `PDU_BSSAP`.
This type can encapsulate information fields of either BSSMAP PDU or DTAP. This way the complete BSSAP PDU can be encoded with one encoder function and vice versa, the decoding can be done in one step. It is not necessary to encode separately the BSSMAP PDU.
== Encoder and Decoder Functions
The following encoder/decoder functions are available to treat BSSAP PDUs:
[source]
----
external function enc_PDU_BSSAP(in PDU_BSSAP pdu) return octetstring
with { extension "prototype(convert) encode(RAW)" };
external function dec_PDU_BSSAP(in octetstring stream) return PDU_BSSAP
with { extension "prototype(convert) decode(RAW)" };
external function enc_PDU_BSSAP_fast(in PDU_BSSAP pdu, out octetstring stream)
with { extension "prototype(fast) encode(RAW)" };
external function dec_PDU_BSSAP_backtrack(in octetstring stream, out PDU_BSSAP pdu) return integer
with { extension "prototype(backtrack) decode(RAW)" };
