VBOX Copyright 1996,1997 Michael 'Ghandi' Herold Presettings for a successfull compilation/installation of vbox: - ncurses 1.9.9g (or higher), - tcl 7.6b1 (or higher), - kernel 2.0.30 with hisax 2.1 (or higher), - isdn4linux with audio support enabled. The above specified version numbers are matching the development environment of vbox. Extract the vbox archive using 'tar -xvzf vbox-x.y.z.tgz' and cd to its main directory (x.y.z. must be replaced with the version number). Before you start to compile you have to call './configure' to create a Makefile, which matches your local environment. A './configure --help' displays modifiable settings. Following options are relevant for vbox (the default settings are specified in [] brackets): --prefix=PREFIX Path in which the vbox directory tree will be --exec-prefix=EPREFIX installed [/usr/local/vbox]. --sbindir=DIR Directory for vbox specific programs, which will be launched by the super user only [EPREFIX/sbin]. --bindir=DIR Directory for programs used by all vbox users [EPREFIX/bin]. --sysconfdir=DIR Directory, which will contain the vbox configs. You can use the global isdn configuration directory if you want [PREFIX/etc]. --with-spooldir=DIR Directory in which vbox users specific sub dirs will be placed. These sub dirs will contain individual vbox configs, recoreded and playable voice messages [/var/spool/vbox]. --with-logdir=DIR Directory in which log files will be placed [/var/log/vbox]. --with-piddir=DIR Directory, which contains the pids of the different vboxgetty daemons [/var/run]. --with-lockdir=DIR This Directory contains the device locking files, which will be created by the vboxgettys [/var/lock]. --with-i4lconfdir=DIR Directory, which contains the configuration files of the i4l package. The config of vbox could also be installed in this place (see --sysconfdir) [/etc/isdn]. --with-tcllib=LIB Tcl library to use. Normaly, the configure script scans for tcl8.0, then tcl7.6 and last for tcl. If it can't find your tcl library you can use this option to specify the name of the library [tcl]. --with-tcldir=DIR Tcl base directory to use. If configure can't find your tcl includes or the tcl library you can use this option to specify the base directory to search. The directory must contain the subdirectories 'include' and 'libs' []. No other options than the above specified are used by the vbox package! You could modify the Makefile after a successful call to './configure' to your own liking, but the default settings should be sufficient. You're able to start the compilation using 'make'. 'make install' will create the neccessary sub dirs and install the executables and config. No configuration file will be overwritten! If a old configuration file exists, the new one is copied with the suffix '.new'. Now you're ready to set up user specific configurations and voice messages. For precise information about this topic see the manual. Please note that the full documentation if available in german only! Please read the manual carefully! There have been a number of changes since version 2.0 of vbox. Your old config files are *not* compatibel and couldn't therfore used any longer! Existing old voice messages must be converted to the .au format, and afterwards converted to the new vbox format using 'autovbox'. There's a mailing list available for support, discussions and suggestions about vbox. To suscribe to the vbox mailing list, send an e-mail to: majordomo@abadonna.mayn.de with the line subscribe vbox in the message body (replace with your email address). Postings to this list are mainly German, although English letters are welcome and will be answered so good as I can ;-)
