Register the pcap and pcapng file types/subtypes rather than hardwiring
them into the table.
Call the registration routines for them directly, rather than through a
generated table; they're always supposed to be there, as some code in
Wireshark either writes only one of those formats or defaults to writing
one of those formats. Don't run their source code through the
registration-routine-finder script.
Have the file type/subtype codes for them be directly exported to the
libwiretap core, and provide routines to return each of them, to be used
by the aforementioned code.
When reporting errors with cfile_write_failure_message(), use
wtap_dump_file_type_subtype() to get the file type/subtype value for the
wtap_dumper to which we're writing, rather than hardcoding it.
Have the "export PDU" code capable of supporting arbitrary file
types/subtypes, although we currently only use pcapng.
Get rid of declarations of now-static can_write_encap and
dump_open routines in various headers.
The first is deprecated, as per https://spdx.org/licenses/.

IXIA^WKeysight Technologies's vitual IxNetwork version 8.30 will
create capture files in a modified format: It uses a different magic
and adds the total size of all records, i.e. the filesize minus the
headersize. Add support for this.
v2: Different file types use different magic numbers.
Not yet tested/supported: The default fileending is .lcap

If you include something from the wiretap directory, always precede it
with wiretap/.
Fix some includes of files in the top-level directory to use a path
relative to the current directory, not relative to the wiretap
directory.
This makes it a bit clearer what's being included.

Start of refactoring Wiretap and breaking structures down into "generally useful fields for dissection" and "capture specific". Since this in intended as a "base" for Wiretap and Filetap, the "wft" prefix is used for "common" functionality.
The "architectural" changes can be found in cfile.h, wtap.h, wtap-int.h and (new file) wftap-int.h. Most of the other (painstaking) changes were really just the result of compiling those new architecture changes.

can't be saved in compress form" are both equivalent to "this file file
format requires seeking when writing it". Change the "can compress"
Boolean in the file format table to "writing requires seeking", give all
the entries the proper value, and do the checks for attempting to write
a file format to a pipe or write it in compressed format to common code.
This means we don't need to pass the "can't seek" flag to the dump open
routines.

The file format stays the same as the common libpcap format, only the lower part of the timestamp field uses nanoseconds instead of microseconds.
This file format uses the libpcap magic number 0xa1b23c4d.

WTAP_ERR_UNSUPPORTED, WTAP_ERR_UNSUPPORTED_ENCAP, and
WTAP_ERR_BAD_RECORD errors. Replace the error messages logged with
"g_message()" for those errors with g_strdup()ed or g_strdup_printf()ed
strings returned as the error info string, and change the callers of
those routines to, for those errors, put the info string into the
printed message or alert box for the error.
Add messages for cases where those errors were returned without printing
an additional message.
Nobody uses the error code from "cf_read()" - "cf_read()" puts up the
alert box itself for failures; get rid of the error code, so it just
returns a success/failure indication.
Rename "file_read_error_message()" to "cf_read_error_message()", as it
handles read errors from Wiretap, and have it take an error info string
as an argument. (That handles a lot of the work of putting the info
string into the error message.)
Make some variables in "ascend-grammar.y" static.

-1 and supply an error code on error (and not, as they did in some
cases, call "g_error()" and abort), and have "wtap_loop()", if the read
routine returned an error, return FALSE (and pass an error-code-pointer
argument onto the read routines, so they fill it in), and return TRUE on
success.
Add some new error codes for them to return.
Now that "wtap_loop()" can return a success/failure indication and an
error code, in "read_cap_file()" put up a message box if we get an error
reading the file, and return the error code.
Handle the additional errors we can get when opening a capture file.
If the attempt to open a capture file succeeds, but the attempt to read
it fails, don't treat that as a complete failure - we may have managed
to read some of the capture file, and we should display what we managed
to read.

When creating the temporary file for a capture, use "create_tempfile()",
to close a security hole opened by the fact that "tempnam()" creates a
temporary file, but doesn't open it, and we open the file with the name
it gives us - somebody could remove the file and plant a link to some
file, and, if as may well be the case when Ethereal is capturing
packets, it's running as "root", that means we write a capture on top of
that file.... (The aforementioned changes to Wiretap let you open a
capture file for writing given an file descriptor, "fdopen()"-style,
which this change requires.)

That requires that, in the packet-reading loop, we pass to the callback
routine the offset in the file of a packet's data, because we can no
longer compute that offset by subtracting the size of the captured
packet data from the offset in the file after the data was read -
"snoop" may stick padding in after the packet data to align packet
headers on 4-byte boundaries.
Doing that required that we arrange that we do that for "libpcap"
capture files as well; the cleanest way to do that was to write our own
code for reading "libpcap" capture files, rather than using the
"libpcap" code to do it.
Make "wtap_dispatch_cb()" and "pcap_dispatch_cb()" static to "file.c",
as they're not used elsewhere.
If we're using wiretap, don't define in "file.h" stuff used only when
we're not using wiretap.
Update the wiretap README to reflect Gilbert's and my recent changes.
Clean up some memory leaks in "wiretap/lanalyzer.c" and
"wiretap/ngsniffer.c", where the capture-file-format-specific data
wasn't freed if the open failed.
