Related to #18009 - Have randpkt default to pcapng, allow selecting
a different capture file format via the common -F option that other
command line tools use, and document it.
For the randpktdump extcap, just use pcapng.
This fixes --all-random, because --all-random requires different
encapsulation per packet. It also fixes the related -r option to
randpkt (though note that picking a file format that doesn't support
ENCAP_PER_PACKET with -r causes problems.)
Document -r in the randpkt man page.
Fix#18944
This allows the "needs to be reloaded" indication to be set in the close
process, as is the case for ERF; having a routine that returns the value
of that indication is not useful if it gets seet in the close process,
as the handle for the wtap_dumper is no longer valid after
wtap_dump_close() finishes.
We also get rid of wtap_dump_get_needs_reload(), as callers should get
that information via the added argument to wtap_dump_close().
Fixes#17989.
Calling cmake with -DENABLE_VLD=ON when building with Visual Studio,
results in debug configuration being linked to Visual Leak Detector.
By default, Visual Leak Detector outputs the leak summary to Visual
Studio debug window. When ENABLE_VLD is active, VLD is linked to all
wireshark libraries and executables.
Have routines to report capture-file errors, using libwireshark error
codes and strings, that call through a pointer, so they can pop up
dialogs in GUI apps, print a message to the standard error on
command-line apps, and possibly do something different on server
programs.
Have init_report_message() take a pointer to structure containing those
function pointers, rather than the function pointers themselves, as
arguments.
Make other API changes to make that work.
Register the pcap and pcapng file types/subtypes rather than hardwiring
them into the table.
Call the registration routines for them directly, rather than through a
generated table; they're always supposed to be there, as some code in
Wireshark either writes only one of those formats or defaults to writing
one of those formats. Don't run their source code through the
registration-routine-finder script.
Have the file type/subtype codes for them be directly exported to the
libwiretap core, and provide routines to return each of them, to be used
by the aforementioned code.
When reporting errors with cfile_write_failure_message(), use
wtap_dump_file_type_subtype() to get the file type/subtype value for the
wtap_dumper to which we're writing, rather than hardcoding it.
Have the "export PDU" code capable of supporting arbitrary file
types/subtypes, although we currently only use pcapng.
Get rid of declarations of now-static can_write_encap and
dump_open routines in various headers.
Change all wireshark.org URLs to use https.
Fix some broken links while we're at it.

This:
1) means that we don't have to flag the compression argument with a
comment to indicate what it means (FALSE doesn't obviously say "not
compressed", WTAP_UNCOMPRESSED does);
2) leaves space in the interfaces in question for additional compression
types.
(No, this is not part 1 of an implementation of additional compression
types, it's just an API cleanup. Implementing additional compression
types involves significant work in libwiretap, as well as UI changes to
replace "compress the file" checkboxes with something to indicate *how*
to compress the file, or to always use some other form of compression).

Wiretap imposes an arbitrary limit on the maximum packet size, to
prevent it from trying to allocate a huge packet buffer and possibly
running out of address space on ILP32 platforms or just eating too much
backing store on LP64/LLP64 platforms. Don't write packets with a
length greater than that limit.

Switch to a single Doyxgen configuration which was generated using a
recent version of Doxygen and customized to suit our needs. Add
wsar_html and wsar_html_zip targets to CMake. Update some Doxygen markup
and documentation as needed.

Except for the one directory that (currently) has "not yet clean" files,
epan/dissectors, we don't need a separate variable to keep track of the
"clean" source files.
In the cases where not all files were in CLEAN_FILES, put them into the
variable used to enable -Werror or its equivalent.

Separate the stuff that any record could have from the stuff that only
particular record types have; put the latter into a union, and put all
that into a wtap_rec structure.
Add some record-type checks as necessary.

Autotools has the very useful feature by design of allowing the user
to override the default build flags (you break it you keep it).
Apparently CMake applies COMPILE_OPTIONS target property after
CMAKE_{C,CXX}_FLAGS so that doesn't work here. Prepend our flags to those
variables instead to make it work then.
Specific target flag overrides can still be added with COMPILER_OPTIONS
(e.g: generated files with -Wno-warning) but this is less effective and
then we're back at the point where this overrides user flags. It's less
of a concern though.

Have programs that use libwiretap call that routine rather than
separately calling some or all of init_open_routines(),
wtap_register_plugin_types(), and wtap_opttypes_initialize().
Also don't have routines internal to libwiretap call those. Yes, this
means doing some initialization work when it isn't necessary, but
scattering on-demand calls throughout the code is a great way to forget
to make those calls.

Instead of checking for the boolean "FALSE", just set an empty string.
This avoids the need to check for WERROR_COMMON_FLAGS before using it.
The transformation is the same for all files, remove
"if (WERROR_COMMON_FLAGS)" and "endif()", reindent and add quotes (since
we have a string here and not a list).
Modelines have been added where missing.

Setting our compiler warning flags in CMAKE_C_FLAGS does not allow
using different flags per target.
Allow for that possibility by setting the internal WS_WARNINGS_{C,CXX}_FLAGS
and using the COMPILE_OPTIONS property to set them.
This change is just setting mechanism and there should be no difference
in generated warnings.
The check_X_compiler_flag cmake test is changed to test each flag individually.
We need a list, not a space separated string, and the aggregate test is not
significant.

IP version is always 6 and as a consequence of setting the
first byte to 0x60 the 4 high-order bits for the
traffic class field are set to zero.
Otherwise the IPv6 dissector does not look past the first TVB
byte, making randpkt useless to exercise the dissector code.

randpkt_parse_type() can (and most likely will) be called before
randpkt_example_init(), therefore g_rand_int_range is called with a NULL
GRand argument. This produces non-random output.

HT tab stops are set every 8 spaces on UN*X; UN*X tools that treat an HT
character as tabbing to 4-space tab stops, or that even are configurable
but *default* to 4-space tab stops (I'm looking at *you*, Xcode!) are
broken. tab-width: 4, tabstop=4, and tabSize=4 are errors if you ever
expect anybody to look at your file with a UN*X tool, and every text
file will probably be looked at by a UN*X tool at some point, so Don't
Do That.
Adjust indentation to reflect the mode lines.
