Guy Harris 4a6dde12d6 Have "All Capture Files" match only capture files.
We support reading some types of files that aren't capture files, in
case we have a dissector for that file format (because, for example,
it's often transported over HTTP).  Don't include them in the set of
files "All Capture Files" matches; you can still look for them as they
have individual entries in the drop-down menu of file type patterns.

Ultimately, there should be Fileshark/TFileshark programs to read those
files - and other file types, and even capture files if the goal is to
look at the file structure rather than at the packets - and *that's* the
program that should offer the ability to load JPEGs and so on.

(No, this does not reduce the "All Capture Files" list down to a level
that makes the problem in bug 12837 go away.  The right way to fix
*that* is to arrange, somehow, that the "All Capture Files" entry not
actually list all the suffixes it matches.)

Guy Harris 95c4c432c4 Handle the new LINKTYPE_CAN_SOCKETCAN_HOSTENDIAN.
Unfortunately, only one libpcap code path puts the CAN ID in the
SocketCAN header in network byte order; the others leave it in host byte
order.  Therefore, a new LINKTYPE_/DLT_ value was introduced, and
libpcap was changed to use that for the cases where the CAN ID is in
host byte order.  Support them both.

This means we need to, when reading pcap and pcapng files, fix up the
CAN ID if the host that wrote the file has a different byte order from
ours (as libpcap also now does).  This includes Linux "cooked" captures,
which can include CAN packets.

Guy Harris 996dcc038d Do a deep copy in wtap_block_add_custom_option().
That way, we don't have to worry about multiple instances of an option
pointing to the same data. and having to worry about freeing data that's
pointed to by another instance.

Guy Harris 1f8999bb96 Redo the block options APIs.
A block can have zero or more instances of a given option.  We
distinguish between "one instance only" options, where a block can have
zero or one instance, and "multiple instances allowed" options, where a
block can have zero or more instances.

For "one instance only" options:

	"add" routines add an instance if there isn't one already
	and fail if there is;

	"set" routines add an instance if there isn't one already
	and change the value of the existing instance if there is one;

	"set nth" routines fail;

	"get" routines return the value of the instance if there is one
	and fail if there isn't;

	"get nth" routines fail.

For "multiple instances allowed" options:

	"add" routines add an instance;

	"set" routines fail;

	"set nth" routines set the value of the nth instance if there is
	one and fail otherwise;

	"get" routines fail;

	"get nth" routines get the value if the nth instance if there is
	one and fail otherwise.

Rename "optionblock" to just "block"; it describes the contents of a
block, including both mandatory items and options.

Add some support for NRB options, including IPv4 and IPv6 option types.

Gerald Combs d25a60c1c1 More Sysdig / system event support.
Add REC_TYPE_SYSCALL to wiretap and use it for Sysdig events. Call the
Sysdig event dissector from the frame dissector. Create a "syscall"
protocol for system calls, but add "frame" items to it for now.

Add the ability to write Sysdig events. This lets us merge packet
capture and syscall capture files.

Michael Mann 08d49ff2e0 Making wiretap option blocks more generic.
This was inspired by https://code.wireshark.org/review/9729/, but takes it in a different direction where all options are put into an array, regardless of whether they are "standard" or "custom".  It should be easier to add "custom" options in this design. Some, but not all blocks have been converted.
Descriptions of some of the block options have been moved from wtap.h to pcapng.h as it seems to be the one that implements the description of the blocks.

Also what could be added/refactored is registering block behavior.

Guy Harris ddeab2c1de Get rid of PCAP_ENCAP_USB.
It doesn't correspond to anything we support - and the old Linux USB
LINKTYPE_ value of 186 doesn't give enough information to dissect the
packets (it discards the event type, for example), so we drop the rest
of our support for it as well.

Guy Harris 4f4769adf6 Move structure definition outside another structure definition.
I guess the ability to define a structure inside another structure is a
C-ism discarded by C++, so it causes warnings if you disallow stuff that
can't be handled by a C++ compiler, as we do.

Guy Harris 24324a0263 Clean up handling of the data before the Ethernet packet in ERF files.
The data before the Ethernet packet isn't a 16-bit little-endian
integer, it's two bytes, one byte of offset and one byte of padding.

Guy Harris d286243d0d Dissect the MC and AAL2 headers as 32-bit words.
That's how they're extracted in the libwiretap module, and that's how
they're shown in the ERF spec.

This gets rid of some compiler warnings about type-punning.

Merge some reserved bit fields to match what's in the ERF spec.
Renumber others.

Process the AAL2 and MC headers differently; yes, they're both
big-endian 32-bit values, but that makes the code a bit clearer, and,
heck, the optimizer may well combine the two sequences of code.

Guy Harris 9418701909 Process the radio information internally for AiroPeek classic files.

Gerald Combs 0d497e8125 Initial Sysdig syscall (event) support.
Add a dissector for reading Sysdig event blocks. It only handles plain
events but it's usable for reading trace files on hand here.

Use a script to generate various parts of the dissector. As an experiment,
update parts in-place instead of using a template.

Ultimately there should probably be a top-level "Syscall" or "Event"
dissector alongside the "Frame" dissector, which could then call this.
You could then directly compare an executable's system calls alongside
its network traffic.

For now leverage the pcapng_block dissector and keep everything under
"Frame".

Next steps:
- Items listed at the top of packet-sysdig-event.c.

Guy Harris 827b7dd756 Skip only the actual file descriptor close when writing to stdout.
Have a "this is stdout" flag for a wtap_dumper, and have "open the
standard output for dumping" routines that set that flag.  When closing
a wtap_dumper, do most of the work regardless of whether we're writing
to the standard output or not (so that everything gets written out) and
only skip the closing of the underlying file descriptor.

Guy Harris 58431e2f6a Don't include libwireshark headers from libwiretap.
Move the definitions of hashipv4_t and hashipv6_t to wiretap/wtap.h, as
that's the main place they're used.  Change them a bit not to depend on
other stuff from libwireshark, and change the code as required by those
changes.

This should fix the Solaris build; apparently, the Sun^WOracle compiler
is generating code for static inline functions even if they're never
called, so that libwiretap ends up including code that calls tvbuff and
wmem functions.

There's probably further cleanup that could be done here, but this
should at least fix the build, as well as getting rid of a dependency
between two libraries that are at least somewhat independent (libwiretap
should *not* depend on libwireshark, as some programs use libwiretap but
not libwireshark, and, ultimately, we probably want it to be possible to
use libwireshark without libwiretap but that'd be more work).

Richard Sharpe 296b9cf1fb Add some symbols to wtap.h so that we can correctly support 802.11ad.
Currently there are a lot of local hacks in the 802.11ad support and
better support can be provided.

Also add a structure to track 802.11ad (DMG) specific features in the phdr
structure as suggested by Guy Harris.

Also, respond to some suggestions by Guy Harris.

Hadriel Kaplan 8fcdcb9c95 Improve file merging for mergecap and wireshark
Refactor the file merging code by removing the duplicate logic from mergecap.c
and file.c's cf_merge_files(), into a new merge_files() function in merge.c.
Also the following user-visible changes:

 * Removed the '-T' encap type option from mergecap, as it's illogical for
   mergecap and would complicate common merge code.

 * Input files with IDBs of different name, speed, tsprecision, etc., will produce
   an output PCAPNG file with separate IDBs, even if their encap types are the same.

 * Added a '-I' IDB merge mode option for mergecap, to control how IDBs are merged.

 * Changed Wireshark's drag-and-drop merging to use PCAPNG instead of PCAP.

Guy Harris b9145bc836 "Short preamble" is 802.11[bg]-only, so put it in the PHY-specifc info.
We're already only setting it for 11b and 11g; this makes it a bit
cleaner, e.g. we don't need to say "oh, wait, we *don't* have short
preamble" for 11n and 11ac.

Graham Bloice e4dc3321b1 Set 802.11.ac Partial AID field size
The assignment of a short to a guint8 in packet-ieee80211-radiotap.c line 1696
generates a narrowing warning.

In my reading of the spec which shows the field as 9 bits,
and looking at the hf fields for this item I think it should be a guint16.

Guy Harris 78adf17850 Fix handling of 11ac radio metadata.
Add more fields to the metadata to handle everything radiotap has, and
show them.

Call the FEC type field just "FEC", and have it be an integer field with
0 meaning BCC and 1 meaning LDPC, rather than a Boolean.

11ac doesn't have *an* MCS, it can have up to 4, one per user.

Guy Harris f1bc598d87 Clean up 802.11 radio information handling.
Have a field that holds the PHY type but nothing else.  Have
a union with structures holding PHY-type-specific information, as a
bunch of attributes are PHY-specific.

If we have a channel and band, but don't have the frequency, attempt to
calculate the frequency, and add that to the radio information if we
succeed.  If we have the frequency, but don't have the channel, attempt
to calculate the channel, and add that to the radio information if we
succeed.

Handle FHSS information, 11a "half/quarter-clocked" and turbo
information, 11g normal vs. Super G, additional 11n and 11ac
information, and the "short preamble" flag for 11b and 11g.

Add a PHY type for 11 legacy DSSS and detect it if possible.

Clean up the AVS dissector - make all fields wlancap. fields (if you
want generic fields, use the wlan_radio. fields).

Set more fields when writing out Commview Wi-Fi files.

Guy Harris 8aa91b31b9 Provide PHY type and band information in the 802.11 pseudo-header.
Provide that information so that the "802.11 radio information" protocol
can indicate whether a packet was 802.11 legacy/11b/11a/11g/11n/11ac,
and possibly whether it's 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz 11n.  (Sometimes the center
frequency might not be supplied, so the band information can be useful.)

Also, provide some 11ac information, now that we can distinguish between
11n and 11ac.  Don't calculate the data rate from the MCS index unless
it's 11n; we don't yet have code to calculate it for 11ac.

For radiotap, only provide guard interval information for 11n and 11ac,
not for earlier standards.

Handle the 11ac flag in the Peek remote protocol.

For Peek tagged files, the "extension flags" are 11n/11ac flags, so we
don't have to check for the "MCS used" bit in order to decide that the
packet is 11n or 11ac or to decide whether to provide the "bandwidth" or
"short GI" information.

Guy Harris 2895d58dc3 Call the "802.11 radio information" dissector for radio headers.
Have dissectors of various forms of radio information headers in the
packets fill in a struct ieee_802_11_phdr with radio information as
appropriate, and call the "802.11 radio information" dissector rather
than the raw 802.11 dissector.

This means that the radio information can be found in a
protocol-independent and encapsulation-independent form when you're
looking at the packet; that information can be presented in a form
somewhat easier to read than the raw metadata header format.

It also enables having a single "radio information" tap that allows
statistics to handle all different sorts of radio information
encapsulation.

In addition, it lets us clean up some of the arguments passed to the
common 802.11 dissector routine, by having it pull that information from
the struct ieee_802_11_phdr.

Ensure that the right structure gets passed to that routine, and that
all the appropriate parts of that structure are filled in.

Rename the 802.11 radio protocol to "wlan_radio", rather than just
"radio", as it's 802.11-specific.  Give all its fields "wlan_radio."
names rather than "wlan." names.

Guy Harris fea325d2ba Handle DLT_LOOP differently from DLT_NULL.
That's a little cleaner, and lets us preserve the LINKTYPE_ value for
DLT_LOOP captures.  ("Preserve" here doesn't mean "write files with a
link-layer header type of 12", as that's ambiguous; we write it with a
link-layer header type of LINKTYPE_LOOP, i.e. 108.  If programs on
OpenBSD don't recognize that as DLT_LOOP, that's a bug in OpenBSD's
libpcap or in the program.)

Guy Harris 51522b3372 Handle "I can't map this for that file format" better.
For cases where record (meta)data is something that can't be written out
in a particular file format, return WTAP_ERR_UNWRITABLE_REC_DATA along
with an err_info string.

Report (and free) that err_info string in cases where
WTAP_ERR_UNWRITABLE_REC_DATA is returned.

Clean up some other error reporting cases, and flag with an XXX some
cases where we aren't reporting errors at all, while we're at it.

Use the "MCS index used" extended flag bit to indicate whether the "data
rate or MCS index" field is a data rate or MCS index.

Display the MCS index value if it's present.

Get rid of the hdr_info_t structure while we're at it; just use local

Guy Harris a566f617d8 No need for WTAP_ERR_CANT_READ.
Unlike the standard I/O routines, the code we introduced that supports
fast random seeking on gzipped files will always supply some specific
error code for read errors, so we don't need WTAP_ERR_CANT_READ.

Add WTAP_ERR_CANT_WRITE for writing, as we're still using the standard
I/O routines for that.  Set errno to WTAP_ERR_CANT_WRITE before calling
fwrite() in wtap_dump_file_write(), so that it's used if fwrite() fails
without setting errno.

Guy Harris 54b733ce9a Make the time stamp resolution per-packet.
Pcap-ng files don't have a per-file time stamp resolution, they have a
per-interface time stamp resolution.  Add new time stamp resolution
types of "unknown" and "per-packet", add the time stamp resolution to
struct wtap_pkthdr, have the libwiretap core initialize it to the
per-file time stamp resolution, and have pcap-ng do the same thing with
the resolution that it does with the packet encapsulation.

Get rid of the TS_PREC_AUTO_XXX values; just have TS_PREC_AUTO, which
means "use the packet's resolution to determine how many significant
digits to display".  Rename all the WTAP_FILE_TSPREC_XXX values to
WTAP_TSPREC_XXX, as they're also used for per-packet values.

Guy Harris d4dab16a3f Only one buffer.c, please.
Otherwise, if you link with both libwiretap and libfiletap, it's
anybody's guess which one you get.  That means you're wasting memory
with two copies of its routines if they're identical, and means
surprising behavior if they're not (which showed up when I was debugging
a double-free crash - fixing libwiretap's buffer_free() didn't fix the
problem, because Wireshark happened to be calling libfiletap' unfixed
buffer_free()).

There's nothing *tap-specific about Buffers, anyway, so it really
belongs in wsutil.

Libpcap 1.6/tcpdump 4.6 will support up to 131072, as the MTU on the
Linux loopback device is 65536 on at least some versions of the kernel,
and that doesn't count the fake Ethernet header, so the maximum packet
size is 65549; they went to the next power of 2 up.

Guy Harris 6dffc3b7e3 Distinguish between "events" and "reports".
Have two different classes of file-type-specific records - "events" and
"reports".  An "event" indicates something that happened in the capture
process, such as a status transition on the network; a "report" just
gives information not corresponding to something happening in the
capture process, such as capture statistics.

Note that both of those should be dissected and displayed like packets,
and leave open the possibility of file-type-specific records whose
contents should be processed and saved but not displayed in the packet
list.

Shorten "file_type_specific" to "ft_specific".

Guy Harris 1b6cc6320e Add support for plugins to handle pcap-ng block types.
We rename "file format" plugins to "libwiretap" plugins, as they can
register as read handlers for a new file type, read/write handlers for a
pcap-ng block type (or both).

To register as a pcap-ng block type handler, in the
register_wtap_module() routine of your plugin, call
register_pcapng_block_type_handler() with the pcap-ng block type and
pointers to your routines to read and write those blocks.  Those
routines should read and write REC_TYPE_FILE_TYPE_SPECIFIC records, with
the block type in the pseudo-header for the record in the struct
wtap_pkthdr structure, with time stamps stored in that structure, and
with a blob of data for the rest of the record.

This is for bug 8590.

Modify code that reads packets to be able to handle non-packet records,
even if that just means ignoring them.

Rename some routines to indicate that they handle more than just
packets.

We don't yet have any libwiretap code that supplies records other than
REC_TYPE_PACKET or that supporting writing records other than
REC_TYPE_PACKET, or any code to support plugins for handling
REC_TYPE_FILE_TYPE_SPECIFIC records; this is just the first step for bug
8590.

Peter Wu 3aee917058 wiretap: remove unused code, drop number_of_interfaces
While investigating an ASAN issue (fixed in
commit dcdd076ab0), I got greatly confused
by three different types having the same "interface_data" field name:

 * pcapng_t *pn stores an array of interface_data_t objects.
 * wtap *wth stores an array of wtapng_if_descr_t objects.
 * pcapng_dump_t should store an array of interface_data_t objects.

pcapng_dump_t and friends are unused since
commit c7f1a431d2, so drop it.

To fix the confusion, rename the interface_data_t type to
interface_info_t type and use the local variable "iface_info"
everywhere. Rename interface_data of pcapng_t to "interfaces" and
add a comment what this exactly means (interfaces listed in the capture
file).

Drop the number_of_interfaces field for interfaces as the array
length is already available from GArray. Now interface_data is always
initialized for wth (which also gets copied to idb).

s/int/guint/g and replace cast at some places.

There are no regressions for the in-tree test suite.

Michael Mann 1abeb277f5 Refactor Wiretap
Start of refactoring Wiretap and breaking structures down into "generally useful fields for dissection" and "capture specific". Since this in intended as a "base" for Wiretap and Filetap, the "wft" prefix is used for "common" functionality.

The "architectural" changes can be found in cfile.h, wtap.h, wtap-int.h and (new file) wftap-int.h. Most of the other (painstaking) changes were really just the result of compiling those new architecture changes.

Guy Harris fc48f57214 Add a dissector for Apple's PKTAP headers.
It automatically works for LINKTYPE_PKTAP and, by default, for
LINKTYPE_USER2; if any other dissector is specified for LINKTYPE_USER2,
that dissector overrides PKTAP.

Christopher Kilgour 7b13a3b0f6 Allow pcapng interface options to be available to dissectors.
Interface options[1], and more generally pcapng options[2], are useful
information that can provide improved dissector output.

Prior to this change, only certain pcapng interface options were interpreted
and made available to dissectors, e.g. the interface name or description.
This change augments the situation by providing epan_get_interface_option( ),
which returns an array of byte arrays if the option code exists
(otherwise NULL).  Each element of the array is a byte buffer containing
the raw data of the option.  An array-of-buffers is used because pcapng
allows for multiple instances of the same option to be present in the file.
All interface options found in a pcapng file are thus made available to the
dissector.

The implementation also provides infrastructure to collect options from
other pcapng blocks such as the section header.  Currently these options
are discarded, but could be retained in the future to support more features.

Michael Mann 04d9501306 Add capture file reader/writer support for Lua so scripts can implement new capture file formats.
This enables a Lua script to implement a brand new capture file format reader/writer, so that for example one could write a script to read from vendor-specific "logs" of packets, and show them as normal packets in wireshark.

Christopher Kilgour ef94a80bfa Introduces two new Bluetooth DLTs for RF-based captures.
Adds support for BLUETOOTH_LE_LL_WITH_PHDR, dissector integrates with existing
BTLE dissector.

Fixes BTLE dissector to correctly extract packet CRC.

Adds CRC checking to BTLE dissector.

Provides optional context to BTLE dissector that allows RF captures to provide
link-layer hints for dissection details.  Significantly, parameters for
determining CRC correctness are provided, as well as Access Address validity
information.

Hadriel Kaplan 041f844d72 Add command-line arg for input file format for tshark/wireshark
Now that we have the ability to choose input file format type
in the GUI, we might as well have it in the command-line too.
Plus it would help me in test-stuies if we had a commandline.
So I've added a '-X read_format:Foo' for this.  Using just
'-X read_format:', or with a bad name, will make it print out
the full list (in tshark); just like the '-F' does for output
file formats.

Note: I am *not* putting in code for Win32 GUI,
because I can't compile that and I wouldn't have even
done the GTK one if I could compile Qt originally. (I don't think we need
to add any more features to GTK or Win32, just Qt from now on,
right?)

of plugins register with the common plugin code, giving a name and a

Guy Harris 32e1523bb2 For the Windows Open dialog for capture files, get rid of the "(*.*)" in
the "All Files" entry (the current UI guidelines from Microsoft say to
do so, and that's what Paint does, at least), and add an "All Capture
Files" entry with all the file extensions for the file types we support
(it'll pick up all text files, but there's not much we can do about
that, and it won't pick up files with *no* extension or weird
extensions, such as you might get from UN*X systems or from WinDump
commands, but at least it'll filter out some other crud).

Fix what appear to be memory leaks; that should be backported unless
I've missed something and they aren't leaks.

Fix an out-of-date comment, and add an additional comment.

Guy Harris 8c9edf1280 Have the seek-read routines take a Buffer rather than a guint8 pointer
as the "where to put the packet data" argument.

This lets more of the libwiretap code be common between the read and
seek-read code paths, and also allows for more flexibility in the "fill
in the data" path - we can expand the buffer as needed in both cases.

Guy Harris d517ab3698 In the Lua dumper code, don't bother checking whether the encapsulation
is supported before trying to open for writing - the attempt to open for
writing will do the check for you.  Instead, check for specific errors
if the attempt to open for writing fails, and use somewhat more specific
error messages for certain error codes.  (We should perhaps check for
even more error codes in those cases.)

That gets rid of all external calls to wtap_dump_can_write_encap(), so
remove it from wtap.h and make it static.

Guy Harris b1ecd8d217 Add a wtap_dump_can_write() routine that indicates whether Wiretap
supports writing files with a given set of encapsulations and comment
types.  Use it, rather than asking for a list of file formats that
support the given set of encapsulation and comment types and checking
whether we got back such a list, or duplicating its logic.

Having file.c use it means that nobody's using
wtap_dump_can_write_encaps() any more; get rid of it.  Instead, have a
private routine that checks whether a given file format supports a given
set of encapsulations *and* comment types, and use that internally.

Guy Harris 82a602d697 Define a collection of bits for different types of capture file comments.
For each capture file type, have a bitset of comment types supported by
that capture file type.

Add a Wiretap routine that, for a given file type, returns the bitset of
comment types it supports.

Have wtap_get_savable_file_types() take a bitset of comment types that
need to be supported by the file types it returns.

Replace cf_has_comments() with a routine that returns a bitset of
capture file comment types in the capture file.

Use those routines in the capture file dialogs; don't wire in the notion
that pcap-NG supports all comment types and no other file formats
support any comment types.  (That's currently true, but we don't want to
wire that in as being forever true.)

Cast away some implicit 64-bit-to-32-bit conversion errors due to use of
sizeof.

strtol() and strtoul().

Change some data types to avoid those implicit conversion warnings.

When assigning a constant to a float, make sure the constant isn't a
double, by appending "f" to the constant.

Constify a bunch of variables, parameters, and return values to
eliminate warnings due to strings being given const qualifiers.  Cast
away those warnings in some cases where an API we don't control forces
us to do so.

Enable a bunch of additional warnings by default.  Note why at least
some of the other warnings aren't enabled.

randpkt.c and text2pcap.c are used to build programs, so they don't need
to be in EXTRA_DIST.

If the user specifies --enable-warnings-as-errors, add -Werror *even if
the user specified --enable-extra-gcc-flags; assume they know what
they're doing and are willing to have the compile fail due to the extra
GCC warnings being treated as errors.

encapsulation type, that's the type, otherwise WTAP_ENCAP_PER_PACKET is
needed.  Use that in wtap_dump_can_write_encaps().

Also use it in cf_save_packets() and cf_export_specified_packets(), so
that we can write out files with WTAP_ENCAP_PER_PACKET as the file
encapsulation type and only one actual per-packet encapsulation type in
some cases where that failed before.  This fixes the case that showed up
in bug 7505, although there are other cases where we *could* write out a
capture in a given file format but won't be able to do so; fixing those
will take more work.

#BACKPORT

(Note: this adds a routine to libwiretap, so, when backported, the
*minor* version of the library should be increased.  Code that worked
with the version of the library prior to this change will continue to
work, so there's no need to change the *major* version of the library.)

Guy Harris b40db9cf4c Add to the 802.11 pseudo-header a "this is already decrypted" flag, set
it as appropriate in the code to read Network Instruments Observer
captures (rather than tweaking the "protected" flag in the packet data),
and use that flag in the 802.11 dissector.

Fix indentation while we're at it (tabs are not *ipso facto* 4 spaces).

Guy Harris 9fcbc2377f The names "etherpeek" and "airopeek" are a bit misleading, as the
"etherpeek.c" file format is used by AiroPeek and the "airopeek9.c" file
format is used by EtherPeek.

Instead, use the names that WildPackets apparently uses for those
formats - "classic" and "tagged".

Guy Harris c63aa61658 Have wtap_get_savable_file_types() take an array of encapsulations and
only return file types that could handle a single file with all those
encapsulations - this means that

	1) if there's more then one encapsulation, the file format has
to handle per-packet encapsulation;

	2) just because a file format handles per-packet encapsulation,
that doesn't mean that it can handle the *particular* encapsulations
being handed to it.

This fixes some cases where we were claiming that a file could be saved
in a format that doesn't actually support it (e.g., ISDN files being
reported as savable in pcap-NG format - there's no LINKTYPE_ value for
ISDN including B and D channels).

Guy Harris e51c05a836 TShark doesn't need wtap_fdreopen(), as it doesn't do saves and thus
doesn't do safe saves, so wtap_fdreopen() always needs to reopen the
random file descriptor.

At the point where a safe save is done, the sequential read is done, so
the sequential stream is closed; there's no need to reopen it.

(The former fourth argument to wtap_fdreopen() wasn't an indication of
whether the file was compressed, it was an indicationof whether the
random stream should be reopened.)

Guy Harris 129c881fcf Sigh. There appears to be no way to get Windows to allow us to rename a
file that we ourselves have open.  In the "safe save" code path for
capture files, on Windows temporarily close the file descriptors for the
currently-open capture before doing the rename and then, if the rename
failed, reopen them, leaving the rest of the wtap and capture_file
structures intact.

Rename filed_open() to file_fdopen(), to make its name match what it
does a bit better (it's an fdopen()-style routine, i.e. do the
equivalent of an open with an already-open file descriptor rather than a
pathname, in the file_wrappers.c set of routines).

Remove the file_ routines from the .def file for Wiretap - they should
only be called by code inside Wiretap.

Closing a descriptor open for input has no reason to fail (closing a
descriptor open for *writing* could fail if the file is on a server and
dirty pages are pushed asynchronously to the server and synchronously on
a close), so just have file_close() return void.

an API to fetch that.

When doing "Save" on a compressed file, write it out compressed.

Guy Harris e6a57c8e93 In Windows, in the Save As and Export Selected Packets dialog, append
the default extension for the file type iff

	the file type we're using has a list of extensions;

	the file has no extension or it has one but it's not one of the
	ones in the list.

*Don't* expect a file extension to be at most 5 characters plus the dot
- the extension for pcap-ng, our default capture file type, is "pcapng",
and that's 6 characters!

encapsulations.

For pre-V9 AiroPeek captures, leave the radio information in the packet
data, just as we do with the Prism, AVS, radiotap, and NetMon headers.
