The current model makes it very hard to extend the traffic tables
with new functionality. For instance, having a total view column
additionally to the normal columns when filtered.
This change removes the QTreeWidget and moves to a more generic
approach using QAbstractListModel elements.
It is implemented in thtree parts:
- ATapDataModel implements the basic collection and handling of
the tap data information, as well as updating if new data is
becoming available
- EndpointDataModel / ConversationDataModel handles the display
and representation of the data
- Implementing TrafficTab as a TabWidget which will handle the
adding/removing of new protocol tabs
Remove the editor modeline blocks from most of the source files in ui/qt
by running
perl -i -p0e 's{ \n+ /[ *\n]+ editor \s+ modelines .* shiftwidth= .* \*/ \s+ } {\n}gsix' $( ag -g '\.(cpp|h)' )
then cleaning up the remaining files by hand.
This *shouldn't* affect anyone since
- All of the source files in ui/qt use 4 space indentation, which
matches the default in our top-level .editorconfig
- The one notable editor that's likely to be used on these files and
*doesn't* support EditorConfig (Qt Creator) defaults to 4 space
indentation.
WiresharkDialog defines cap_file_, so there's no need to define it in
TrafficTableDialog.

Remove the file_closed_ member from class TrafficTableDialog. We already
have a file_closed_ variable in the base class WiresharkDialog, which is
updated correctly when the file is closed.
The shadow file_closed_ variable in TrafficTableDialog is always false.
Classes that are derived from TrafficTableDialog will not see that the
capture file was closed.
The following scenario crashes Wireshark because of this bug
* open a capture file with TCP traffic
* Statistics / Conversations
* select a TCP conversation
* close the capture file
* press the Follow Stream button in the Conversations dialog
-> Wireshark crashes

Class TrafficTableTreeWidget is used by the conversation and enpoint
dialogs, both of which are subclasses of WiresharkDialog.
Those dialogs use WiresharkDialog::registerTapListener() to register tap
listeners. When the dialog is closed, those listeners are removed by
WiresharkDialog::removeTapListeners().
TrafficTableTreeWidget's destructor tries to remove its tap listener a
2nd time after WiresharkDialog did its cleanup. This causes warnings
Warn remove_tap_listener(): no listener found with that tap data
Don't call remove_tap_listener() from TrafficTableTreeWidget's
destructor. The destructor is now empty and can be removed completely.

Add a checkbox which lets you toggle between absolute and relative start
times. Use the local time for now. Fixes bug 11618.
Adjust our time precision based on the capture file's time precision.
Fixes bug 12803.

Generate column text dynamically. This keeps us from having to iterate
over our tree items each time we receive updates.
Set the uniformRowHeights property.
Stop automatically resizing columns after 200 items.
Fixup name resolution behavior. Disable the checkbox if host name
resolution is disabled.

Many of our dialogs can send an "apply this display filter" signal to
the main window. Applying a display filter in turn creates a nested
event loop via cf_read+update_progress_dlg. If the "apply" signal+slot
is directly connected (which is the default, and which means we're
calling into a function table) we can close the dialog while the signal
is firing, which means we return into a deleted object.
Make all of the filterAction signals+slots queued instead of direct.

Create a "registration" system for Follow functionality so most of the work can be abstracted into a dissector and GUI can just be responsible for "display".
This also removes the global variables in follow.c to open up multithreading possibilities.
TCP, UDP and HTTP all have the same "tap interface" for Follow functionality (passing a tvb with byte data to "follow"). SSL still has it's own behavior, so Follow structures have to take that into account.
TShark through the Follow registration now has support for HTTP.
The only thing possibly missing is dynamic menu generation to further reduce explicit knowledge of Follow "type" (and rely on registration)

Add ProgressFame::addToButtonBox, which violates the UX guidelines on
every platform we support by inserting a ProgressFrame into a
QDialogButtonBox.
Call addToButtonBox in the constructors of a bunch of dialogs.

The official C++ way is to leave out the variable name instead. This has the
advantage to be reliable: In one case a variable declared unused was later
used.

If a file in the same directory as config.h, e.g. wireshark-qt.cpp
has a #include "config.h", or another header it includes also has
a #include "config.h", then an out-of-tree build, e.g. CMake will
pick up any in-tree config.h and odd things may happen. The correct
form is #include <config.h> which will pick up the out-of-tree
version.
To find this, introduce a deliberate error and then make an out-of-tree
build, noting where it fails and fix that file. If that file includes
other files that still cause the build to fail, set the compiler
to emit the pre-processed version so you can locate the include with
the next errant "config.h". Repeat ad nauseum.
Possibly all includes of "config.h" should be changed to <config.h>
Revert "CMake: Clobber the top-level config.h before we build."

Add WiresharkDialog, a common base class for dialogs centered around
capture files. Make it a parent of Capture File Properties, Traffic
Table, Conversations, and Endpoints.
Rename CaptureFile::read_only_ to file_closed_. Add methods to
WiresharkApplication for generating consistent window titles.

Add isValid, fileTitle, and retapPackets methods to CaptureFile. Add
application name and title separator convenience methods to
WiresharkApplication.
Convert traffic tables, conversations, and endpoints to use CaptureFile
directly and to let the user know when the capture file is closed. Set
the file dialog titles while we're here.

Move the map creation code from ui/gtk/hostlist_table.c to
ui/traffic_table_ui.c.
Add CMake commands to copy ipmap.html to the run directory so that
WIRESHARK_RUN_FROM_BUILD_DIRECTORY works for the endpoint map. Not sure
if they're entirely correct but they appear to work.
Add boundary checkes to geoip_db_lookup_ipv[46].
To do:
- It looks like there are prettier maps and newer APIs that we
might want to use.

Create a TrafficTableDialog (for lack of a better name) parent class
from the general parts of ConversationDialog. Use it to create
EndpointsDialog.
Move the contents of conversation_tree_widget.{cpp,h} to
conversation_dialog.{cpp,h} to match endpoint_dialog and
traffic_table_dialog.
Fill in GeoIP columns dynamically instead of using a hard-coded limit.
Use "endp_" and "ENDP_" prefixes for a lot of endpoint variables and
defines.
Try to make geoip_db_lookup_ipv4 and geoip_db_lookup_ipv6 more robust.
Clean up some includes. Fix a shadowed variable.
