There is no need for nesting event loops when showing menus. Show menus
asynchronously to limit possibilities of hard to debug problems related
to re-entering event loop.
getPoints never worked in the new system therefore it is removed. SparkLineDelegate uses the underlying model to ensure the correct data being transmitted
Sparklines should display to the user, which interfaces are active
and ready for capture. Additionally it should be easy to find active
interfaces, without filtering first.
This change reorders the interface list, in order to sort active
interfaces on top, as well as hide information if no packet has been
received on that interface, to ensure that the user can find active
interfaces faster, making it easier to capture on systems where
the interfaces have very generic names.
The interface context menu has been amended to allow interfaces to be
hidden/unhidden from the main interface list as well
Move WiresharkApplication.{cpp,h} to MainApplication.{cpp,h}. Add back
WiresharkApplication as a thin superclass of MainApplication, similar to
LogsharkApplication. Change all of our wsApp references to mainApp. We
will likely have to change many or most of them back, but that's a
commit for another time.
Qt 5.10 added qsizetype, aka an ssize_t and Qt 6 makes extensive use of
it. Add a compatibility typedef and use it where we can. Cast it away
where we can't.
The distinction between the different kinds of capture utility
may not warrant a special subfolfer for each, and sometimes the
distinction is not be clear or some functions could stradle
multiple "categories" (like capture_ifinfo.[ch]).
Simplify by having only a generic 'capture' subfolder. The
separate CMake libraries are kept as a way to reuse object code
efficiently.
Remove the editor modeline blocks from most of the source files in ui/qt
by running
perl -i -p0e 's{ \n+ /[ *\n]+ editor \s+ modelines .* shiftwidth= .* \*/ \s+ } {\n}gsix' $( ag -g '\.(cpp|h)' )
then cleaning up the remaining files by hand.
This *shouldn't* affect anyone since
- All of the source files in ui/qt use 4 space indentation, which
matches the default in our top-level .editorconfig
- The one notable editor that's likely to be used on these files and
*doesn't* support EditorConfig (Qt Creator) defaults to 4 space
indentation.
The macOS installer works differently from the way it did when that
message was written (it's now a drag-install for Wireshark, with
separate installers for ChmodBPF and for files to add the Wireshark
binary directory to the default $PATH), and the macOS main screen now
offers a "click this to install" link, running the ChmodBPF installer,
if the user doesn't have permissions to capture. Update the message
to reflect that (although that's wrong if you directly run dumpcap or
run it via TShark - this needs to be cleaned up in some fashion).
Fix a capitalization error while we're at it.
In the code that generates the main screen message to which the dumpcap
message refers, add a comment saying that, if the main screen message
changes, dumpcap's message should also be updated.
The "The NPF driver isn't running. You may have trouble" warning dialog
is now redundant, so remove it along with the "privs.warn_if_no_npf"
recent setting.
Add a more general "sys.warn_if_no_capture" recent setting along with a
getter for SimpleDialog's "Don't show this message again." string. Use
them to add a "Don't show this..." link to the main welcome warning
label.

Check to see if npcap.sys or npf.sys are running and show a warning if
they aren't. Don't show any warnings if we were compiled without libpcap.
Separate the "show a warning" logic from the "show the interface list"
logic.

Create ChmodBPF installer and uninstaller packages using pkgbuild and
productbuild. Place them in Wireshark.app/Resources/Extras.
Add a path_helper installer and uninstaller which respectively add and
remove /etc/*paths.d/Wireshark.
Remove the PackageMaker and utility-launcher assets and build targets.
Show a message in the main welcome screen if we don't have capture
permissions. Add an link which launches the ChmodBPF installer.
Add a "macOS Extras" item to About → Folders.
Migrate "Read me first" from RTF to Asciidoctor, which lets us add links
and looks like our other documentation.
Rename dmg_set_style.scpt to arrange_dmg.applescript and make it plain
text. Always run it in osx-dmg.sh.

Rename some of the columns - IFTREE_COL_NAME is the interface name,
IFTREE_COL_DESCRIPTION is the description/friendly name, and a new
IFTREE_COL_DISPLAY_NAME column is the display name (which may include
both the description and the interface name). Rename
IFTREE_COL_INTERFACE_COMMENT to just IFTREE_COL_COMMENT - there's no
*other* type of comment, and "IF" is short for "interface".
In the interface frame, use IFTREE_COL_DISPLAY_NAME, as that's the only
column that shows both and thus has something for all interfaces.
In the "Manage interfaces" dialog, put the description before the
interface name, as it was in earlier versions.

Update the recent item list and interface tree style sheets so that
hovered items have a different background color. This should make it
more obvious that they can be clicked.
Select the default interface (or failing that, the first interface) at
application startup and focus on the interface tree. This should make it
less likely that the user will start typing in a capture filter with the
wrong (or no) interface selected. Note that we should probably track
selected interfaces in the recent file instead of forcing the user to
select one via the preferences.
This should hopefully address some of the issues in bug 12636 and do so
without changing the layout (which we can do in another commit).

interfaces (InterfaceFrame::interfaceListChanged). Add additional
patches to ensure that selection changes from the main screen propagate
to the dialog and be careful to avoid infinite recursions.
