João Valverde a19834b98c Windows: Store "gui.console_open" in the Windows registry
This removes the last dependency of the logging subsystem on the
preferences module. The latter is started much later than the former
and this is an issue.

The Windows-only preference "gui.console_open" is stored in the
registry as HKEY_LOCAL_USER\Software\Wireshark\ConsoleOpen. The semantics
are exactly the same. The preference is read by the logging subsystem
for initialization and then again by the preferences (read/write) so
the user can configure it as before.

The code to store the preference also in the preferences file was
kept, for backward compatibility and because it is not incompatible
with using the Registry concurrently.

The elimination of the prefs dependency also allows moving the Windows
console logic to wsutil and add the functionality to wslog directly,
thereby eliminating the superfluous Wireshark/Logray custom log handler.

To be able to read the ws_log_console_open global variable from
libwireshark it becomes necessary to add a new export macro
symbol called WSUTIL_EXPORT.

João Valverde 8df2a73594 Use the musl in-tree getopt_long() everywhere
Besides the obvious limitation of being unavailable on Windows,
the standard is vague about getopt() and getopt_long() has many
non-portable pitfalls and buggy implementations, that increase
the maintainance cost a lot. Also the GNU libc code currently
in the tree is not suited for embedding and is unmaintainable.

Own maintainership for getopt_long() and use the musl implementation
everywhere. This way we don't need to worry if optreset is available,
or if the $OPERATING_SYSTEM version behaves in subtly different ways.

The API is under the Wireshark namespace to avoid conflicts with
system headers.

Side-note, the Mingw-w64 9.0 getopt_long() implementation is buggy
with opterr and known to crash. In my experience it's a headache to
use the embedded getopt implementation if the system provides one.

David Perry 84a0141683 [#12331] Persist cmd-line prefs on reloading Lua
Save a list of all user options that were specified on the Wireshark
command line using the `-o` option. Reapply those preferences after
reloading Lua plugins. Fixes the behaviour given in #12331 wherein such
prefs were reset to the defaults, not the command-line values, when
reloading Lua plugins.

When the user changes a preference in the Wireshark UI, remove that
preference from the stored command line options, so it doesn't get reset
when Lua plugins are reloaded again.

Guy Harris 0a9ef601d2 Clean up handling of --capture-comment.
Don't store the comments in a capture_options structure, because that's
available only if we're being built with capture support, and
--capture-comment can be used in TShark when reading a capture file and
writing another capture file, with no live capture taking place.

This means we don't handle that option in capture_opts_add_opt(); handle
it in the programs that support it.

Support writing multiple comments in dumpcap when capturing.

These changes also fix builds without pcap, and makes --capture-comment
work in Wireshark when a capture is started from the command line with
-k.

Update the help messages to indicate that --capture-comment adds a
capture comment, it doesn't change any comment (much less "the" comment,
as there isn't necessarily a single comment).

Update the man pages:

- not to presume that only pcapng files support file comments (even if
that's true now, it might not be true in the future);
- to note that multiple instances of --capture-comment are supported,
and that multiple comments will be written, whether capturing or reading
one file and writing another;
- clarify that Wireshark doesn't *discard* SHB comments other than the
first one, even though it only displays the first one;

João Valverde 100876337a Move version_info.[ch] to ui/
Version info is an aspect of UI implementation so move it to
a more appropriate place, such as ui/. This also helps declutter

This gives us one source of indentation truth for these files, and it
*shouldn't* affect anyone since

- These files match the default in our top-level .editorconfig.

- The one notable editor that's likely to be used on these files and
*doesn't* support EditorConfig (Qt Creator) defaults to 4 space
indentation.

Guy Harris 60e339bba4 Don't handle -k in capture_opts_add_opt().
It's not a generic capture option also supported by TShark and dumpcap,
it's Wireshark-specific (dumpcap *always* starts a capture, and TShark
starts one iff it's passed one or more interfaces on which to capture;
only Wireshark needs it to start the capture immediately - that's a
relic of the days when Wireshark *itself* did what dumpcap now does for
Wireshark).

Handle it in commandline_other_options(), rather than in
capture_opts_add_opt().

That lets us get rid of an argument to capture_opts_add_opt(), and dummy
variables in TShark and dumpcap used to work with that extra argument.

Jaap Keuter d90a22c1cc Reorganize long option values
For long options, without corresponding short options, to be processed
they need to be assigned a value, preferably outside of the range of
all possible short options. The code in various places tries to stay
clear of these low values, but further coordination is missing, easily
leading to issues when option processing code gets extended and/or
reorganized.

This change introduces a single location from where each catagory of
command line long option can derive a base value, which should minimize
potential option value collisions.

Ahmad Fatoum aca55a29f7 Add hardware timestamping support
pcap provides a pcap_set_tstamp_type function, which can be used to request
hardware timestamps from a supporting kernel.

This patch adds support for aforementioned function as well as two new
command line options to dumpcap, wireshark and tshark:

    --list-time-stamp-types
                             List time stamp types supported for the interface
    --time-stamp-type <type>
                             Change the interface's timestamp method

Name choice mimics those used by tcpdump(1), which already supports this
feature. However, unlike tcpdump, we provide both options unconditionally.
If Wireshark was configured without pcap_set_tstamp_type being available,
--list-time-stamp-types reports an empty list.

Have a snapshot length of 0 in a capture_file structure mean "there is
no snapshot length for the file"; we don't need the has_snap field in
that case, a value of 0 mean "no, we don't have a snapshot length".

In dumpcap, start out with a pipe buffer size of 2KB, and grow it as
necessary. When checking for a too-big packet from a pipe, check
against the appropriate maximum - 128MB for DLT_DBUS, 256KB for
everything else.

Guy Harris 067ef3e08a Clean up documentation and help messages for protocol enabling/disabling.
List all of --enable-protocol, --disable-protocol, --enable-heuristic,
and --disable-heuristic in the SYNOPSIS section of the man pages.

Undent after the list of taps for the -z option, so the following
options are at the same indentation as other options.

List --enable-protocol in the DESCRIPTION, above --disable-protocol.

Include --enable-protocol in the help message.

Guy Harris 357cfd3b03 A bunch of "{Mac} OS X" -> "macOS" changes.
Avoid anachronisms, however; there was no "macOS 10.0" or even "OS X
10.0", for example. It was "Mac OS X" until 10.8 (although 10.7 was
sometimes called "OS X" and sometimes called "Mac OS X"), and it was "OS
X" from 10.8 to 10.11.

Martin Sehnoutka 8efd42c4aa Reflect new default value of snaplen in man pages.
Default value for snaplen is defined in wiretap/wtap.h:
 #define WTAP_MAX_PACKET_SIZE    262144

and used in capture_opts.c:
    capture_opts->default_options.snaplen         =
    WTAP_MAX_PACKET_SIZE;

but help and man pages don't reflect this change.

Michael Mann c302812566 Add enabled protocol list for dissectors who are disabled by default
We save a list of dissectors that are disabled through the Enabled Protocols
dialog. This is because we assume dissectors are enabled by default.

For dissectors that are disabled by default, we have no way to keep them
enabled through the Enabled Protocols dialog. A dissector that defaults
to being disabled has to be reset to enabled each time Wireshark is launched.

Add a list similar to the disabled list for enabling dissectors that are
disabled by default.
This mostly applies to post-dissectors.
