Use gtk_box_pack_start() instead of gtk_container_add()

when packing into a [v|h]box so that Gtk2 & Gtk3 behavior is
 the same.

Also: Add an XXX comment:
        "progess" rendering doesn't seem to work for Gtk3 ??
