b8f8068405 mtd: nand: move NAND_CREATE_EMPTY_BBT flag
The NAND_CREATE_EMPTY_BBT flag was added by commit:
  453281a973
  mtd: nand: introduce NAND_CREATE_EMPTY_BBT
This flag is not used within the kernel and not explained well, so I
took the liberty to edit its comments.

Also, this is a BBT-related flag (and closely tied with NAND_BBT_CREATE)
so I'm moving it to bbm.h next to NAND_BBT_CREATE, thus requiring that
we use the flag in nand_chip.bbt_options, *not* in nand_chip.options.

bb9ebd4e71 mtd: nand: rename NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT
Recall the recently added prefix requirements:
 * "NAND_" for flags in nand.h, used in nand_chip.options
 * "NAND_BBT_" for flags in bbm.h, used in nand_chip.bbt_options
        or in nand_bbt_descr.options

Thus, I am changing NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT to NAND_BBT_USE_FLASH.

Again, this flag is found in bbm.h and so should NOT be used in the
"nand_chip.options" field.

a40f73419f mtd: nand: consolidate redundant flash-based BBT flags
This patch works with the following three flags from two headers (nand.h
and bbm.h):
  (1) NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT (nand.h)
  (2) NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT_NO_OOB (nand.h)
  (3) NAND_BBT_NO_OOB (bbm.h)

These flags are all related and interdependent, yet they were in
different headers. Flag (2) is simply the combination of (1) and (3) and
can be eliminated.

This patch accomplishes the following:
  * eliminate NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT_NO_OOB (i.e., flag (2))
  * move NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT (i.e., flag (1)) to bbm.h

It's important to note that because (1) and (3) are now both found in
bbm.h, they should NOT be used in the "nand_chip.options" field.

I removed a small section from the mtdnand DocBook because it referes to
NAND_USE_FLASH_BBT in nand.h, which has been moved to bbm.h.

5fb1549dfc mtd: nand: separate chip options / bbt_options
This patch handles the problems we've been having with using conflicting
flags from nand.h and bbm.h in the same nand_chip.options field. We
should try to separate these two spaces a little more clearly, and so I
have added a bbt_options field to nand_chip.

Important notes about nand_chip fields:
* bbt_options field should contain ONLY flags from bbm.h. They should be
able to pass safely to a nand_bbt_descr data structure.
    - BBT option flags start with the "NAND_BBT_" prefix.
* options field should contian ONLY flags from nand.h. Ideally, they
should not be involved in any BBT related options.
    - NAND chip option flags start with the "NAND_" prefix.
* Every flag should have a nice comment explaining what the flag is. While
this is not yet the case on all existing flags, please be sure to write
one for new flags. Even better, you can help document the code better
  yourself!

Please try to follow these conventions to make everyone's lives easier.

Among the flags that are being moved to the new bbt_options field
throughout various drivers, etc. are:
 * NAND_BBT_SCANLASTPAGE
 * NAND_BBT_SCAN2NDPAGE
and there will be more to come.

a0dc552951 mtd: nand: remove NAND_BBT_SCANBYTE1AND6 option
This patch reverts most of:
    commit 58373ff0af
mtd: nand: more BB Detection refactoring and dynamic scan options

According to the discussion at:
    http://lists.infradead.org/pipermail/linux-mtd/2011-May/035696.html
the NAND_BBT_SCANBYTE1AND6 flag, although technically valid, can break
some existing ECC layouts that use the 6th byte in the OOB for ECC data.
Furthermore, we apparently do not need to scan both bytes 1 and 6 in
the OOB region of the devices under consideration; instead, we only need
to scan one or the other.

Thus, the NAND_BBT_SCANBYTE1AND6 flag is at best unnecessary and at
worst a regression.

9efabc8476 UBI: do not link debug messages when debugging is disabled
Michal Marek spotted the same issue in UBIFS and this patch fixes UBI,
see "UBIFS: not build debug messages with CONFIG_UBIFS_FS_DEBUG disabled"

When UBI debugging is disabled, we have debugging messages defined as:

if (0)
	pr_debug()

But pr_debug macro defines data structures with debugging data and makes
the linux binary larger, even though we have "if (0)".

423e0ab086 VFS : mount lock scalability for internal mounts
For a number of file systems that don't have a mount point (e.g. sockfs
and pipefs), they are not marked as long term. Therefore in
mntput_no_expire, all locks in vfs_mount lock are taken instead of just
local cpu's lock to aggregate reference counts when we release
reference to file objects. In fact, only local lock need to have been
taken to update ref counts as these file systems are in no danger of
going away until we are ready to unregister them.

The attached patch marks file systems using kern_mount without
mount point as long term. The contentions of vfs_mount lock
is now eliminated. Before un-registering such file system,
kern_unmount should be called to remove the long term flag and
make the mount point ready to be freed.

02c24a8218 fs: push i_mutex and filemap_write_and_wait down into ->fsync() handlers
Btrfs needs to be able to control how filemap_write_and_wait_range() is called
in fsync to make it less of a painful operation, so push down taking i_mutex and
the calling of filemap_write_and_wait() down into the ->fsync() handlers. Some
file systems can drop taking the i_mutex altogether it seems, like ext3 and
ocfs2. For correctness sake I just pushed everything down in all cases to make
sure that we keep the current behavior the same for everybody, and then each
individual fs maintainer can make up their mind about what to do from there.

b7f080cfe2 net: remove mm.h inclusion from netdevice.h
Remove linux/mm.h inclusion from netdevice.h -- it's unused (I've checked manually).

To prevent mm.h inclusion via other channels also extract "enum dma_data_direction"
definition into separate header. This tiny piece is what gluing netdevice.h with mm.h
via "netdevice.h => dmaengine.h => dma-mapping.h => scatterlist.h => mm.h".
Removal of mm.h from scatterlist.h was tried and was found not feasible
on most archs, so the link was cutoff earlier.

Hope people are OK with tiny include file.

Note, that mm_types.h is still dragged in, but it is a separate story.

2a826061df UBI: dump stack when switching to R/O mode
If we have debugging enabled and switching to R/O mode because of an error -
dump the stack to improve UBI error reporting and make the further diagnostics
easier to do.

01a4110d2b UBI: fix oops in error path
This patch fixes an oops in the error path of 'ubi_attach_mtd_dev()'. If
anything after 'uif_init()' fails, we get an oops in 'cancel_pending()'. The
reason is that 'uif_close()' drops the last reference count for 'ubi->dev' and
whole 'struct ubi_device' is freed. And then
'ubi_wl_close()'->'cancel_pending()' tries to access the 'ubi' pointer and
problems begin.

Note, in 'ubi_detach_mtd_dev()' function we get a device reference to
work-around this issue. Do the same in the error path of
'ubi_attach_mtd_dev()'.

cd6d8567a4 UBI: switch debugging tests knobs to debugfs
Kill the UBI 'debug_tsts' module parameter and switch to debugfs. Create
per-test mode files there. E.g., to enable bit-flips emulation you may just do:

echo 1 > /sys/kernel/debug/ubi/ubi0/tst_emulate_bitflips

1807373324 UBI: make it possible to use struct ubi_device in debug.h
Current layout does not allow us to add inline functions to debug.h which use
the 'struct ubi_device' object, because it is undefined there. Move
'#include "debug.h"' in "ubi.h" down so to make 'struct ubi_device" be defined.
Additionally, this makes it possible to remove a bunch of forward declarations
in "debug.h". This is a preparation to the next patch.

27a0f2a37a UBI: prepare debugging stuff to further debugfs conversion
We'll need the 'struct ubi_device *ubi' pointer in every debugging function (to
access the ->dbg field), so add this pointer to all the functions implementing
UBI debugging test modes like 'ubi_dbg_is_bitflip()' etc.

2a734bb8d5 UBI: use debugfs for the extra checks knobs
This patch introduces debugfs support to UBI. All the UBI stuff is kept in the
"ubi" debugfs directory, which contains per-UBI device "ubi/ubiX"
sub-directories, containing debugging files. This file also creates
"ubi/ubiX/chk_gen" and "ubi/ubiX/chk_io" knobs for switching general and I/O
extra checks on and off. And it removes the 'debug_chks' UBI module parameters.

d99383b00e UBI: change the interface of a debugging check function
This is a minor preparational patch which changes the
'paranoid_check_in_wl_tree()' function interface by adding the 'ubi' parameter
which will be needed there in the next patch.

And while on it, add "const" qualifier to the 'ubi' parameter of the
'paranoid_check_in_pq()' function.

7c802fbd54 mtd: be silent when mtd partition parser cannot be found
Currently when we register partitions in 'parse_mtd_partitions()' we accept the
list of parsers we should try. And if one of the parsers was not found we print
a message. Well, first of all this whole idea is bad - look at how many
'part_probes' and 'part_probe_types' variables we have - nearly every driver
defines one. Instead, we should just go through all registered parsers all the
time. But this needs to be worked on separately.

This patch makes life of MTD partitions' users a bit simpler and allows them to
safely request parsers which have not been registered -
'parse_mtd_partitions()' will not print a "not available" message in this
case.

The point is that drivers do not have to do things like this any longer:

static const char *part_probe_types[] = { "cmdlinepart", "RedBoot",
                                         "afs",
                                         NULL };

but can simply do like this:

static const char *part_probe_types[] = { "cmdlinepart", "RedBoot", "afs", NULL };

c5d8c0cae4 mtd: omap: fix subpage ecc issue with prefetch
When reading/writing a subpage (When HW ECC is not available/enabled)
for number of bytes not aligned to 4, the mis-aligned bytes are handled
first (by cpu copy method) before enabling the Prefetch engine to/from
'p'(start of buffer 'buf'). Then it reads/writes rest of the bytes with
the help of Prefetch engine, if available, or again using cpu copy method.
Currently, reading/writing of rest of bytes, is not done correctly since
its trying to read/write again to/from begining of buffer 'buf',
overwriting the mis-aligned bytes.

Read & write using prefetch engine got broken in commit '2c01946c'.
We never hit a scenario of not getting 'gpmc_prefetch_enable' call
success. So, problem did not get caught up.

33b53716bc mtd: create function to perform large allocations
Introduce a common function to handle large, contiguous kmalloc buffer
allocations by exponentially backing off on the size of the requested
kernel transfer buffer until it succeeds or until the requested
transfer buffer size falls below the page size.

This helps ensure the operation can succeed under low-memory, highly-
fragmented situations albeit somewhat more slowly.

Artem: so this patch solves the problem that the kernel tries to kmalloc too
large buffers, which (a) may fail and does fail - people complain about this,
and (b) slows down the system in case of high memory fragmentation, because
the kernel starts dropping caches, writing back, swapping, etc. But we do not
really have to allocate a lot of memory to do the I/O, we may do this even with
as little as one min. I/O unit (NAND page) of RAM. So the idea of this patch is
that if the user asks to read or write a lot, we try to kmalloc a lot, with GFP
flags which make the kernel _not_ drop caches, etc. If we can allocate it - good,
if not - we try to allocate twice as less, and so on, until we reach the min.
I/O unit size, which is our last resort allocation and use the normal
GFP_KERNEL flag.

Artem: re-write the allocation function so that it makes sure the allocated
buffer is aligned to the min. I/O size of the flash.

a80f1c1f6a mtd: omap2: mtd split nand_scan in ident and tail
nand_scan calls nand_scan_tail and here we got a ecc.layout and calculate
oobavail for this layout. After calling nand_scan, we change the layout pointer

oobavail. Mountig as jffs2 is not possible.

To fix that nand_scan has to split up in nand_scan_ident and nand_scan_tail
setting ecc.layout between these calls. So nand_scan_tail calculates oobvail
for the used layout. This is also done in serveral other platforms.

94735ec404 mtd: mtd_blkdevs: fix error path in blktrans_open
The 'blktrans_open()' does not handle possible '__get_mtd_device()' failures
because it does not check the error code. Moreover, the 'dev->tr->open()'
failures are not handled correctly because in this case the function just
goes ahead and gets the mtd device, then returns an error. But Instead, it
should _not_ try to get the mtd device, then it should put back the module
and the kref.

This patch fixes the issue. Note, I only compile-tested it. This patch was
inspired by a bug report about a similar issue in 2.6.34 kernels
sent by Mike Turner <admin@islandsoftware.co.uk> to the MTD mailing list:

a2f812df0b mtd: nand: dynamic allocation of flash-based BBT structs
It is nicer to dynamically create our badblock patterns than to
statically define them. The nand_create_default_bbt_descr() function

The set_vpp() method provided by physmap passes a map_info back to

Instead, pass the platform_device, which can be used in the pismo

of the hack that was in place.

The empty set_vpp function in board-at572d940hf_ek.c is left untouched,

remove au_readl/au_writel, remove the predefined GPIO1/2 KSEG1 register

This also fixes a bug in the mtx-1_wdt driver which was introduced by
commit 6ea8115bb6
("Convert mtx1 wdt to be a platform device and use generic GPIO API")
before this patch mtx-1_wdt only modified GPIO215, the patch then
used the gpio resource information as bit index into the GPIO2 register
but the conversion to the GPIO API didn't realize that.
With this patch the drivers original behaviour is restored and GPIO15
is left alone.

b1608d69cb drivercore: revert addition of of_match to struct device
Commit b826291c, "drivercore/dt: add a match table pointer to struct
device" added an of_match pointer to struct device to cache the
of_match_table entry discovered at driver match time. This was unsafe
because matching is not an atomic operation with probing a driver. If
two or more drivers are attempted to be matched to a driver at the
same time, then the cached matching entry pointer could get
overwritten.

This patch reverts the of_match cache pointer and reworks all users to
call of_match_device() directly instead.

6748482f41 UBI: re-name set volume properties ioctl
Rename the ioctl which sets volume properties from 'UBI_IOCSETPROP' to
'UBI_IOCSETVOLPROP' to reflect the fact that this ioctl is about volume

other volume ioctl name - 'UBI_IOCVOLUP'.

The main motivation for the re-name, however, is that we are going
to introduce the per-UBI device "set properties" ioctl, so we need
good and logical naming.

At the same time, re-name the "set volume properties request" data
structure from 'struct ubi_set_prop_req' to
'struct ubi_set_vol_prop_req'.

And re-name 'UBI_PROP_DIRECT_WRITE' to 'UBI_VOL_PROP_DIRECT_WRITE'.

This patch makes the UBI control device (/dev/ubi_ctrl) non-seekable.
The seek operation does is not applicable to this file, so it is
cleaner to explicitly return error (which the added 'no_llseek()')
does than trying to change the position (which the removed
'default_llseek()' does).

This is an API break, but the only known user of this interface is
mtd-utils which does not need the seeking functionality. And any app
which relies on this is broken, but I'm not aware of such apps.

6bef0b6747 UBI: do not select KALLSYMS_ALL
All UBI needs is to make sure we stacktraces when UBI debugging
is enabled. It is enough to select KALLSYMS for this, KALLSYMS_ALL
is not necessary.

And the current Kconfig line we have:

select KALLSYMS_ALL if KALLSYMS && DEBUG_KERNEL

is just too complex to be sane and right. But this "if" part there
is needed to prevent "unmet direct dependency" warnings, because
KALLSYMS_ALL depends on KALLSYMS and DEBUG_KERNEL, so we cannot
just select KALLSYMS_ALL.

Anyway, this feels messy, and we do not seem to really need KALLSYMS_ALL,
so select KALLSYMS instead.

NOTE!

This merge commit was created to fix compilation error. The block
tree was merged upstream and removed the 'elv_queue_empty()'
function which the new 'mtdswap' driver is using. So a simple
merge of the mtd tree with upstream does not compile. And the
mtd tree has already be published, so re-basing it is not an option.

To fix this unfortunate situation, I had to merge upstream into the
mtd-2.6.git tree without committing, put the fixup patch on top of
this, and then commit this. The result is that we do not have commits
which do not compile.

In other words, this merge commit "merges" 3 things: the MTD tree, the
upstream tree, and the fixup patch.

28237e4583 UBI: make tests modes dynamic
Similarly to the debugging checks and message, make the test modes
be dynamically selected via the "debug_tsts" module parameter or
via the "/sys/module/ubi/parameters/debug_tsts" sysfs file. This
is consistent with UBIFS as well.

And now, since all the Kconfig knobs became dynamic, we can remove
the Kconfig.debug file completely.

92d124f531 UBI: make self-checks dynamic
This patch adds a possibility to dynamically switch UBI self-checks
on and off, instead of toggling them compile-time from the configuration
menu. This is much more flexible, and consistent with UBIFS, and this
also simplifies UBI Kconfig menu and the code.

This patch introduces two levels of self-checks - general, which
includes all self-checks which are relatively fast, and I/O, which
includes write-verify checks and erase-verify checks, which are
relatively slow and involve flash I/O.

6edb979395 UBI: kill debugging buffer
This patch kills the 'ubi->dbg_peb_buf' debugging buffer and the
associated mutex, because all users of this buffer are now gone.
We are killing this buffer because we are going to switch to
dynamic debugging control, just like in UBIFS, which means that
CONFIG_MTD_UBI_DEBUG_PARANOID will be removed. In this case we'd
end up always allocating 'ubi->dbg_peb_buf', which is rather large
(128KiB or more), and this would be wasteful. Thus, we are just
killing it.

332873d60b UBI: allocate erase checking buffer on demand
Instead of using pre-allocated 'ubi->dbg_peb_buf' buffer in
'ubi_dbg_check_all_ff()', dynamically allocate it when needed. The
intend is to get rid of the pre-allocated 'ubi->dbg_peb_buf' buffer
completely. And the need for this arises because we want to change
to dynamic debugging control instead of compile-time control, i.e.,
we are going to kill the CONFIG_MTD_UBI_DEBUG_PARANOID Kconfig
option, which would mean that 'ubi->dbg_peb_buf' is always allocated,
which would be wasteful.

Thus, we are getting rid of 'ubi->dbg_peb_buf', and this is a
preparation for that.

193bd40026 mtd: nand: add software BCH ECC support
This patch adds software BCH ECC support to mtd, in order to handle recent
NAND device ecc requirements (4 bits or more).

It does so by adding a new ecc mode (NAND_ECC_SOFT_BCH) for use by board
drivers, and a new Kconfig option to enable BCH support. It relies on the
generic BCH library introduced in a previous patch.

When a board driver uses mode NAND_ECC_SOFT_BCH, it should also set fields
chip->ecc.size and chip->ecc.bytes to select BCH ecc data size and required
error correction capability. See nand_bch_init() documentation for details.

It has been tested on the following platforms using mtd-utils, UBI and
UBIFS: x86 (with nandsim), arm926ejs.

dcfb81d61d mtd: NOR flash driver for OMAP-L137/AM17x
OMAP-L137/AM17x has limited number of dedicated EMIFA
address pins, enough to interface directly to an SDRAM.
If a device such as an asynchronous flash needs to be
attached to the EMIFA, then either GPIO pins or a chip
select may be used to control the flash device's upper
address lines.

This patch adds support for the NOR flash on the OMAP-L137/
AM17x user interface daughter board using the latch-addr-flash
MTD mapping driver which allows flashes to be partially
physically addressed. The upper address lines are set by
a board specific code which is a separate patch.

4d42942cff mtd: make MTD_CONCAT support mandatory
Move mtdconcat to be an integral part of the mtd core. It's a tiny bit
of code, which bears 'say Y if you don't know what to do' note in the
Kconfig. OTOH there are several ugly ifdefs depending on the MTD_CONCAT.
So, making MTD_CONCAT support mandatory will allow us to clean up code a
lot.

Kconfig entry is changed to be a bool defaulting to Y, so all code
pieces depending on it, will have MTD_CONCAT Kconfig symbol and
CONFIG_MTD_CONCAT define. This will be removed in one of next patches.

ceabebb2bd mtd: jedec_probe: initialise make sector erase command variable
In the commit 08968041be
(mtd: cfi_cmdset_0002: make sector erase command variable)
introdused a field sector_erase_cmd. In the same commit initialisation
of cfi->sector_erase_cmd made in cfi_chip_setup()
(file drivers/mtd/chips/cfi_probe.c), so the CFI chip has no problem:

...
        cfi->cfi_mode = CFI_MODE_CFI;
        cfi->sector_erase_cmd = CMD(0x30);
...

But for the JEDEC chips this initialisation is not carried out,
so the JEDEC chips have sector_erase_cmd == 0.

This patch adds the missing initialisation.

f040d33253 omap3: nand: making ecc layout as compatible with romcode ecc
This patch overrides nand ecc layout and bad block descriptor (for 8-bit
device) to support hw ecc in romcode layout. So as to have in sync with ecc
layout throughout; i.e. x-loader, u-boot and kernel.

This enables to flash x-loader, u-boot, kernel, FS images from kernel itself
and compatiable with other tools.

This patch does not enables this feature by default and need to pass from
board file to enable for any board.
