The function setup_ehci_io_mux() references

Initialize fixed regulators in the board files. Trying to
do this in a generic way in gpmc-smsc911x.c gets messy as
the regulator may be provided by drivers, such as twl4030,
for some boards.

Adding in support for regulators here creates several headaches.
- Boards that declare their own regulator cannot use this function.
- Multiple calls to this function require special handling.
- Boards that declare id's other than '0' need special handling.
Now that there is a simple regulator_register_fixed, we can push
this registration back into the board files.

On PPC, CR2-CR4 are nonvolatile, thus have to be saved across function calls.
We didn't respect that for any architecture until Paul spotted it in his
patch for Book3S-HV. This patch saves/restores CR for all KVM capable PPC hosts.

The ABI specifies that CR fields CR2--CR4 are nonvolatile across function
calls. Currently __kvmppc_vcore_entry doesn't save and restore the CR,
leading to CR2--CR4 getting corrupted with guest values, possibly leading
to incorrect behaviour in its caller. This adds instructions to save
and restore CR at the points where we save and restore the nonvolatile
GPRs.

In kvm_alloc_linear we were using and deferencing ri after the
list_for_each_entry had come to the end of the list. In that
situation, ri is not really defined and probably points to the
list head. This will happen every time if the free_linears list
is empty, for instance. This led to a NULL pointer dereference
crash in memset on POWER7 while trying to allocate an HPT in the
case where no HPTs were preallocated.
This fixes it by using a separate variable for the return value
from the loop iterator.

We were failing to compile on book3s_32 with the following errors:

Fix this by explicity casting the u64 to long before we use it as a pointer.
Also, on PPC32 we can not use get_user/put_user for 64bit wide variables,
as there is no single instruction that could load or store variables that big.
So instead, we have to use copy_from/to_user which works everywhere.

got rid of all instances but one in locomolcd.c -- which was
conditional on CONFIG_SA1100_COLLIE. The associated .power
field which replaces the global is populated in mach-sa1100/collie.c
so move the assignment there, but make it conditional on the
locomolcd support, so use CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_LOCOMO in that file.

Commit b4816afa39 ("Move the asm-generic/system.h xchg()
implementation to asm-generic/cmpxchg.h") introduced the concept of
asm/cmpxchg.h but the parisc arch never got one. Fork the cmpxchg
content out of the asm/atomic.h file to create one.
Some minor whitespace fixups were done on the block of code that created
the new file.

Commit bf4289cba0 ("ATMEL: fix nand ecc support") indicated that it
wanted to "Move platform data to a common header
include/linux/platform_data/atmel_nand.h" and the new header even had
re-include protectors with:

The return path as we reload registers and core state requires that r30
hold a boolean indicating whether we are returning from an NMI, but in a
couple of cases we weren't setting this properly, with the result that we
could accidentally unmask the NMI interrupt(s), which could cause confusion.
Now we set r30 in every place where we jump into the interrupt return path.

We were re-homing the initial task's kernel stack on the boot cpu,
but in fact it's better to let it stay globally homed, since that
task isn't bound to the boot cpu anyway. This is more of a general
cleanup than an actual performance optimization, but it removes
code, which is a good thing. :-)

Previously we were returning SIGSEGV in this case. It seems cleaner
to return SIGBUS since the hardware figures out alignment traps
before TLB violations, so SIGBUS is the "more correct" signal.

There were some correctness issues with this code that are now fixed
with this change. The change is likely less performant than it could
be, but it should no longer be vulnerable to any races with memory
operations on the memory network while invalidating a range of memory.
This code is run infrequently so performance isn't critical, but
correctness definitely is.

This idiom is used elsewhere when we do an unlock by writing a zero,
but I missed it here. Using an atomic operation avoids waiting
on the write buffer for the unlocking write to be sent to the home cache.

Pragmatically it couldn't be wrong to cast pointers to long to compare
them (since all kernel addresses are in the top half of VA space),

If we are single-stepping and make a syscall, we call ptrace_notify()
explicitly on the return path back to user space, since we are returning
to a pc value set artificially to the next instruction, and otherwise
we won't register that we stepped over the syscall instruction (swint1).

We should be holding the init_mm.page_table_lock in shatter_huge_page()
since we are modifying the kernel page tables. Then, only if we are
walking the other root page tables to update them, do we want to take
the pgd_lock.
Add a comment about taking the pgd_lock that we always do it with
interrupts disabled and therefore are not at risk from the tlbflush
IPI deadlock as is seen on x86.

We now respond to MEM_ERROR traps (e.g. an atomic instruction to
non-cacheable memory) with a SIGBUS.
We also no longer generate a console crash message if a user
process die due to a SIGTRAP.

instructions to fill the hardware return-address stack with nonzero values.

Fix a long-standing bug in the stack backtracer where we would print
garbage to the console instead of kernel function names, if the kernel
wasn't built with symbol support (e.g. mboot).
Make sure to tag every line of userspace backtrace output if we actually
have the mmap_sem, since that way if there's no tag, we know that it's
because we couldn't trylock the semaphore.
Stop doing a TLB flush and examining page tables during backtrace.
Instead, just trust that __copy_from_user_inatomic() will properly fault
and return a failure, which it should do in all cases.
Fix a latent bug where the backtracer would directly examine a signal
context in user space, rather than copying it safely to kernel memory
first. This meant that a race with another thread could potentially
have caused a kernel panic.
Guard against unaligned sp when trying to restart backtrace at an
interrupt or signal handler point in the kernel backtracer.
Report kernel symbolic information for the call instruction rather
than for the following instruction. We still report the actual numeric
address corresponding to the instruction after the call, for the sake
of consistency with the normal expectations for stack backtracers.

Add a comment explaining why this is important, and add a CFLAGS_REMOVE

With lockstat we can end up trying to get a backtrace before
"high_memory" is initialized, so don't worry about range testing

of it to all its users.
Also, commit b4816afa39
"Move the asm-generic/system.h xchg() implementation to asm-generic/cmpxchg.h"
introduced the concept of asm/cmpxchg.h but the tile arch
never got one. Fork the cmpxchg content out of the asm/atomic.h
file to create one.

That set_current_state() won't work very well: the subsequent mutex_lock()

daemonize() is only needed when a user-space task does kernel_thread().
eeh_event_handler() thread is created by the worker kthread, and thus it

As long as there is no other non-const variable marked __initdata in the
same compilation unit it doesn't hurt. If there were one however
compilation would fail with
error: $variablename causes a section type conflict
because a section containing const variables is marked read only and so
cannot contain non-const variables.

This does a sweeping change fixing up all the missing system_misc.h and
system_info.h includes from the system.h split-up change. These were the
ones I came across when building all defconfigs in arch/arm/configs, there
might be more but they lack adequate build coverage to be easily caught.
I'm expecting to get a lot of these piecemeal by each maintainer, so we
might just as well do one sweeping change to get them all at once.

On gccs that support AVX it's a good idea to disable that too, similar to
how SSE2, SSE1 etc. are already disabled. This prevents the compiler
from generating AVX ever implicitely.
No failure observed, just from review.

Commit 68b7f715 ("nommu: ptrace support") added definitions for
PT_TEXT_ADDR and friends, as well as adding ptrace support for reading
from these magic offsets.
Unfortunately, this has probably never worked, since ptrace_read_user
predicates reading on off < sizeof(struct user), returning -EIO
otherwise.
This patch moves the offset size check until after we have tried to
match it against either a magic value or an offset into pt_regs.

Some improper formatting caused the .eh_frame generation to fail,
resulting in gcc/g++ testsuite failures with regards to unwinding through
the vDSO. Now that someone is actually working on this on the gcc side
it's time to fix up the kernel side, too.

Presently there's no SHmedia support plugged in for the dwarf unwinder.
While it's trivial to provide an SHmedia version of dwarf_read_arch_reg(),
the general sh64 case is more complicated in that the TLB miss handler
uses a locked down set of registers for optimization (including the frame
pointer) which we need for the unwind table generation.
While freeing up the frame pointer for use in the TLB miss handler is
reasonably straightforward, it's still more trouble than it's worth, so
we simply restrict the unwinder to 32-bit for now.

When processor is being hot-added to the system, acpi_map_lsapic invokes
ACPI _MAT method to find APIC ID and flags, verifies that returned structure
is indeed ACPI's local APIC structure, and that flags contain MADT_ENABLED
bit. Then saves APIC ID, frees structure - and accesses structure when
computing arguments for acpi_register_lapic call. Which sometime leads
to acpi_register_lapic call being made with second argument zero, failing
to bring processor online with error 'Unable to map lapic to logical cpu
number'.
As lapic->lapic_flags & ACPI_MADT_ENABLED was already confirmed to be non-zero
few lines above, we can just pass unconditional ACPI_MADT_ENABLED to the
acpi_register_lapic.

Currently when a CPU is off-lined it enters either MWAIT-based idle or,
if MWAIT is not desired or supported, HLT-based idle (which places the
processor in C1 state). This patch allows processors without MWAIT
support to stay in states deeper than C1.

The X86_32-only disable_hlt/enable_hlt mechanism was used by the
32-bit floppy driver. Its effect was to replace the use of the
HLT instruction inside default_idle() with cpu_relax() - essentially
it turned off the use of HLT.
This workaround was commented in the code as:
"disable hlt during certain critical i/o operations"
"This halt magic was a workaround for ancient floppy DMA
wreckage. It should be safe to remove."
H. Peter Anvin additionally adds:
"To the best of my knowledge, no-hlt only existed because of
flaky power distributions on 386/486 systems which were sold to
run DOS. Since DOS did no power management of any kind,
including HLT, the power draw was fairly uniform; when exposed
to the much hhigher noise levels you got when Linux used HLT
caused some of these systems to fail.
They were by far in the minority even back then."
Alan Cox further says:
"Also for the Cyrix 5510 which tended to go castors up if a HLT
occurred during a DMA cycle and on a few other boxes HLT during
DMA tended to go astray.
Do we care ? I doubt it. The 5510 was pretty obscure, the 5520
fixed it, the 5530 is probably the oldest still in any kind of
use."

There has long been a limitation using software breakpoints with a
kernel compiled with CONFIG_DEBUG_RODATA going back to 2.6.26. For
this particular patch, it will apply cleanly and has been tested all
the way back to 2.6.36.
The kprobes code uses the text_poke() function which accommodates
writing a breakpoint into a read-only page. The x86 kgdb code can
solve the problem similarly by overriding the default breakpoint
set/remove routines and using text_poke() directly.
The x86 kgdb code will first attempt to use the traditional
probe_kernel_write(), and next try using a the text_poke() function.
The break point install method is tracked such that the correct break
point removal routine will get called later on.

When K >= 0xFFFF0000, AND needs the two least significant bytes of K as
its operand, but EMIT2() gives it the least significant byte of K and
0x2. EMIT() should be used here to replace EMIT2().

The default irq_disable() sematics are to mark the interrupt disabled,
but keep it unmasked. If the interrupt is delivered while marked
disabled, the low level interrupt handler masks it and marks it
pending. This is important for detecting wakeup interrupts during
suspend and for edge type interrupts to avoid losing interrupts.
fixup_irqs() moves the interrupts away from an offlined cpu. For
certain interrupt types it needs to mask the interrupt line before
changing the affinity. After affinity has changed the interrupt line
is unmasked again, but only if it is not marked disabled.
This breaks the lazy irq disable semantics and causes problems in
suspend as the interrupt can be lost or wakeup functionality is
broken.
Check irqd_irq_masked() instead of irqd_irq_disabled() because
irqd_irq_masked() is only set, when the core code actually masked the
interrupt line. If it's not set, we unmask the interrupt and let the
lazy irq disable logic deal with an eventually incoming interrupt.

The MPC8569 Rev2.0 has the correct SNUM table as QE Reference Manual, we
must follow it.
However the Rev1.0 silicon need the old SNUM table as workaround due to
Rev1.0 silicon SNUM erratum.
So, we support both snum table, and choose the one FDT tell us.
And u-boot will fixup FDT according to SPRN_SVR.

The "memory" clobber tells the compiler to ensure that all writes to memory
are committed before the hypercall is made.
"memory" is only necessary for hcalls where the Hypervisor will read or
write guest memory. However, we add it to all hcalls because the impact is
minimal, and we want to ensure that it's present for the hcalls that need
it.

Remove the check for CONFIG_PPC_85xx and CONFIG_PPC_86xx from fsl_guts.h.
The check was originally intended to allow the same header file to
be used on 85xx and 86xx systems, even though the Global Utilities
register could be different. It turns out that they're not actually
different, and so the check is not necessary. In addition, neither
macro is defined for 64-bit e5500 kernels, so that causes a build
break.

This adopts a trimmed down version of the MIPS port mangling interface
limited to the I/O swabbing for platforms that can't use little endian
accessors. For platforms with mixed I/O spaces involving PCI it will
still be necessary to enable byte swapping at the host controller level.
Attention needs to be paid to all of host controller endianness, CPU
endianness, and whether I/O accesses are explicitly swapped or not via
SWAP_IO_SPACE. Fortunately the platforms that need this are in the
minority.

crashkernel reservation need know the total memory size. Current
get_total_mem simply use max_pfn - min_low_pfn. It is wrong because it
will including memory holes in the middle.
Especially for kvm guest with memory > 0xe0000000, there's below in qemu
code: qemu split memory as below:

So for 4G mem guest, seabios will insert a 512M usable region beyond of
4G. Thus in above case max_pfn - min_low_pfn will be more than original
memsize.
Fixing this issue by using memblock_phys_mem_size() to get the total
memsize.

We have lots of infrastructure in place to partition multi-core systems
such that we have a group of CPUs that are dedicated to specific task:
cgroups, scheduler and interrupt affinity, and cpuisol= boot parameter.
Still, kernel code will at times interrupt all CPUs in the system via IPIs
for various needs. These IPIs are useful and cannot be avoided
altogether, but in certain cases it is possible to interrupt only specific
CPUs that have useful work to do and not the entire system.
This patch set, inspired by discussions with Peter Zijlstra and Frederic
Weisbecker when testing the nohz task patch set, is a first stab at trying
to explore doing this by locating the places where such global IPI calls
are being made and turning the global IPI into an IPI for a specific group
of CPUs. The purpose of the patch set is to get feedback if this is the
right way to go for dealing with this issue and indeed, if the issue is
even worth dealing with at all. Based on the feedback from this patch set
I plan to offer further patches that address similar issue in other code
paths.
This patch creates an on_each_cpu_mask() and on_each_cpu_cond()
infrastructure API (the former derived from existing arch specific
versions in Tile and Arm) and uses them to turn several global IPI

Core kernel:
on_each_cpu_mask() calls a function on processors specified by cpumask,
which may or may not include the local processor.
You must not call this function with disabled interrupts or from a
hardware interrupt handler or from a bottom half handler.
arch/arm:
Note that the generic version is a little different then the Arm one:
1. It has the mask as first parameter
2. It calls the function on the calling CPU with interrupts disabled,
but this should be OK since the function is called on the other CPUs
with interrupts disabled anyway.
arch/tile:
The API is the same as the tile private one, but the generic version
also calls the function on the with interrupts disabled in UP case
This is OK since the function is called on the other CPUs
with interrupts disabled.

As described in e6fa16ab ("signal: sigprocmask() should do
retarget_shared_pending()") the modification of current->blocked is
incorrect as we need to check whether the signal we're about to block is
pending in the shared queue.
Also, use the new helper function introduced in commit 5e6292c0f2
("signal: add block_sigmask() for adding sigmask to current->blocked")
which centralises the code for updating current->blocked after
successfully delivering a signal and reduces the amount of duplicate code
across architectures. In the past some architectures got this code wrong,
so using this helper function should stop that from happening again.

get_signal_to_deliver() already resets the signal handler if SA_ONESHOT is
set in ka->sa.sa_flags, there's no need to do it again in handle_signal().
Furthermore, because we were modifying ka->sa.sa_handler (which is a copy
of sighand->action[]) instead of sighand->action[] the original code had
no effect on signal delivery.

In this case the BIOS assigns both offsets for MCE (0xf9) and IBS
(0x400) vectors to offset 0, which is why the second APIC setup (IBS)

Xen dom0 needs to paravirtualize IO operations to the IO APIC,
so add a io_apic_ops for it to intercept. Do this as ops
structure because there's at least some chance that another
paravirtualized environment may want to intercept these.

Now that userspace is making use of kernel-provided sanitized headers for
working out supported interfaces, we need to be a bit more diligent with
matching the syscall definitions with their actual wiring/support state.
In theory it shouldn't hurt anything since sys_ni_syscall will ultimately
do the right thing, but there's also not much need to lie about legacy
x86 syscalls that we've never supported.
This tightens things up a bit for uClibc at least.

Merge branch 'fixes-non-critical' into next/drivers2
fixes-non-critical has already been merged upstream, and there are a
handful of annoying context conflicts that it makes sense to resolve
before sending up. Part of this is because there was parallel development

- as we no longer support any other Acorn platforms other than RiscPC

970 and Power4 don't support "continuous sampling" which means that
when we aren't in marked instruction sampling mode (marked events),
SIAR isn't updated with the last instruction sampled before the
perf interrupt. On those processors, we must thus use the exception
SRR0 value as the sampled instruction pointer.
Those processors also don't support the SIPR and SIHV bits in MMCRA
which means we need some kind of heuristic to decide if SIAR values
represent kernel or user addresses.

This makes vio_register_driver() get the module owner & name at compile
time like PCI drivers do, and adds a name pointer directly in struct
vio_driver to avoid having to explicitly initialize the embedded
struct device.

We have code to take environmental and power warning (EPOW)
interrupts but it simply prints a terse error message:
EPOW <0x6240040000000b8 0x0 0x0>
which tells us nothing about what happened. Even worse, if we
don't correctly respond to the interrupt we may get terminated
by firmware.
Add code to printk some useful information when we get EPOW events.
We want to make it clear that we have an error, that it was
reported by firmware and that the RTAS error log will have more
detailed information. eg:
Ambient temperature too high reported by firmware.
Check RTAS error log for details
Depending on the error encountered, we now issue an immediate or
an orderly power down.
Move initialization of the EPOW interrupt earlier in boot since we
want to respond to them as early as possible.

The IO event interrupt code has a function that finds specific
sections in an RTAS error log. We want to use it in the EPOW
code so make it global.
Rename things to make it less cryptic:

Currently, the existing PHBs are retrieved from the FDT (Flat
Device Tree) based on the name of FDT node. Specificly, those
FDT nodes whose names have prefix "pci" are regarded as PHBs.
That's inappropriate because some PCI bridges possibilly have
names leading with "pci". It caused EEH is enabled on same
PCI devices for towice.
The patch fixes the above issue. Besides, the PHBs are expected
to be figured out from FDT before enable EEH on them. Therefore,
it's resonable to retrieve the PHBs from the global linked list
traced by variable "hose_list" insteading poking them from FDT.
For the EEH implementation on pSeries platform, RTAS is critical
because all low-level functions are implemented based on RTAS.
Therefore, we should make sure "/rtas" OF node is available and
ready before to enable EEH core. However, it actually introduced
duplicate since the previous pSeries platform dependent initialization
function already do the check. Besides, we want to make eeh core
platform independent, so RTAS related staff should be removed there.
The patch removes the duplicate check on "/rtas" OF node for eeh
core.

The patch removes the eeh information from pci_dn since the eeh
device (struct eeh_dev) already contained those information and
the copy in pci_dn is no longer used except for the pseries iommu
mapping code, which we change to retrieve the PE address from eeh
device instead.

Originally, the PCI sensitive OF node is tracing the eeh device
through struct device_node->edev. However, it was regarded as
bad idea.
The patch removes struct device_node->edev and uses PCI_DN to
trace the corresponding eeh device according to BenH's comments.

or extending the interface to the platform. In cases where there is no
maintainer for the driver, or the maintainer prefers to have the

These changes are all specific to one board only. We're trying to keep
the number of board files low, but generally board level updates are
ok on platforms that are working on moving towards DT based probing,
which will eventually lead to removing them.
The board-ams-delta.c board file gets a conflict between the removal of
ams_delta_config and the addition of a lot of other data. The Kconfig
file has two changes in the same line, and in exynos, the power domain
cleanup conflicts with the addition of the image sensor device.

Add a debugfs interface for sending commands to the OLPC
Embedded Controller (EC) and reading the responses. The EC
provides functionality for machine identification, battery and
AC control, wakeup control, etc.
Having a debugfs interface available is useful for EC
development and debugging.

External circuitry like level shifters may limit the maximum operation

We should not ever enable IRQs until we're fully set up. This opens up
a window where interrupts can hit the cpu and interrupts can do
wakeups, wakeups need state that isn't set-up yet, in particular this
cpu isn't elegible to run tasks, so if any cpu-affine task that got
created in CPU_UP_PREPARE manages to get a wakeup, its affinity mask
will get broken and we'll run into lots of 'interesting' problems.

This patch is part of a set which fixes unnecessary flash erase and write errors
resulting from the MTD CFI driver turning off vpp while an erase is in progress.
This patch allows physmap_set_vpp() calls to be nested by adding a reference
counter.
omap1_set_vpp() already used a reference counter. Since it is called from
physmap_set_vpp(), omap1_set_vpp() can now be simplified.
simtec_nor_vpp() already disabled hard interrupts. Since it is called from
physmap_set_vpp(), simtec_nor_vpp() can now be simplified.

Address Latch Enable (ALE) and Command Latch Enable (CLE) defines are
platform specific and were wrongly put in driver specific fsmc.h file.
Move such defines to their respective platform.
Also instead of relying on fsmc driver, pass ALE, CLE offsets explicitly
from individual platform.

Move the header to a more common place.
The mxs dma engine is not only used in mx23/mx28, but also used
in mx50/mx6q. It will also be used in the future chips.
Rename it to mxs-dma.h, and create a new folder include/linux/fsl/ to
store the Freescale's header files.
change mxs-dma driver, mxs-mmc driver, gpmi-nand driver, mxs-saif driver
to the new header file.

All ARCHs have the same definition of MKIMAGE. Move it to Makefile.lib
to avoid duplication.
All ARCHs have similar definitions of cmd_uimage. Place a sufficiently
parameterized version in Makefile.lib to avoid duplication.

It is mainly a simple merge changing the prefix of some
functions to fit the imx-dma namings.
As there are no users of the old dma-v1.c api we can safely

This patch adds a set of macros that can be used to declare
kernel parameters to be parsed _before_ initcalls at a chosen
level are executed. We rename the now-unused "flags" field of
struct kernel_param as the level. It's signed, for when we
use this for early params as well, in future.
Linker macro collating init calls had to be modified in order
to add additional symbols between levels that are later used
by the init code to split the calls into blocks.

Both functions are mostly identical.
The differences are:
- x86_32's cpu_idle() makes use of check_pgt_cache(), which is a
nop on both x86_32 and x86_64.
- x86_64's cpu_idle() uses enter/__exit_idle/(), on x86_32 these
function are a nop.
- In contrast to x86_32, x86_64 calls rcu_idle_enter/exit() in
the innermost loop because idle notifications need RCU.
Calling these function on x86_32 also in the innermost loop
does not hurt.
So we can merge both functions.

Remove the new unused DMA controller definitions from mach/SA-1100.h.
These are now private to the SA-11x0 DMA engine driver and contained
within the driver.

pxa was missed in the moving of IOMEM to a common definition, so lots of
IOMEM redefined warnings were introduced. So remove pxa IOMEM definition
and fix all the fallout.

The only users of ARCH_HAS_DMA_SET_COHERENT_MASK are 2 ARM platforms:
ixp4xx and pxa cm_x2xx. We've been getting lucky that the define is
implicitly included before dma-mapping.h, but the removal of io.h broke
things (c334bc1 ARM: make mach/io.h include optional). Since memory.h
is the correct place, but no longer exists, convert the define to a
kconfig entry.

x86_64 UML is unable to load modules if more than 504MiB
of memory are used.
This happens because on x86_64 the UML process has a quite high
start address (typically around 0x6000000).
If UML's memory is larger than 504MiB VMALLOC_START happens to be after
0x8000000. This is no problem unless one loads a module which was built
with R_X86_64_32S relocations.
Symbols with a location > 0x8000000 cannot be used with R_X86_64_32S
To deal with this x86_64 UML has to be compiled with -mcmodel=large
such that no R_X86_64_32S relocations are used.
