The generic reset command is unused. Each interface type needs to
handle the reset command differently since after reset, the firmware is
dead and interface-specific mechanisms must be used to reinitialize the
card.

Currently, the receive processing reads ->byte_cnt twice (once to
update interface statistics and once to properly size the data area
of the received skb), but since receive descriptors live in uncached
memory, caching this value in a local variable saves one uncached
access, and increases routing performance a tiny little bit more.

Since the size of the receive queue is directly related to the data
cache footprint of the driver (between refilling a receive ring entry
with a fresh skb and receiving a packet in that entry, queue_size - 1
other skbs will have been touched), shrink the default receive queue
size to a saner number of entries, as 400 is definite overkill for
almost all workloads.
While we are at it, trim the default transmit queue size a bit as well.

Get rid of the skb pointer array that we currently use for transmit
reclaim, and replace it with an skb queue, to which skbuffs are appended
when they are passed to the xmit function, and removed from the front
and freed when we do transmit queue reclaim and hit a descriptor with
the 'owned by device' bit clear and 'last descriptor' bit set.

By moving DMA unmapping during transmit reclaim back under the netif
tx lock, we avoid the situation where we read the DMA address and buffer
length from the descriptor under the lock and then not do anything with
that data after dropping the lock on platforms where the DMA unmapping
routines are all NOPs (which is the case on all ARM platforms that
mv643xx_eth is used on at least).
This saves two uncached reads, which makes a small but measurable
performance difference in routing benchmarks.

Since our ->hard_start_xmit() method is already called under spinlock
protection (the netif tx queue lock), we can simply make that lock
cover the private transmit state (descriptor ring indexes et al.) as
well, which avoids having to use a private lock to protect that state.
Since this was the last user of the driver-private spinlock, it can
be killed off.

Move link status handling, transmit reclaim and TX_END handling from
the interrupt handler to the napi poll handler. This allows switching
->lock over to a non-IRQ-safe lock and removes all explicit interrupt
disabling from the driver.

iwconfig txpower can now be used to set tx power to fixed or auto. If set to
auto the default firmware settings are used.
The command CMD_802_11_PA_CFG is only sent to older firmware, as Dan Williams
noted the command was no longer supported in firmware V9+.

This patch fixes a bug in Rate Scaling. When moving from SISO to MIMO we
need to choose the lowest higher rate, instead of choosing the highest in MIMO.
No doing this can lead to a high packet loss in the highest rate in MIMO,
leading not to move MIMO although lower in MIMO could give a better TPT.

If certain commands were in-flight when the card was pulled or the
driver rmmod-ed, cleanup would block on the work queue stopping, but the
work queue was in turn blocked on the current command being canceled,
which didn't happen. Fix that.

RFKILL should be enabled for _all_ hardware whether
or not they feature a rfkill button or not.
Remove driver specific RFKILL configuration options
and make the rt2x00lib version depend on CONFIG_RFKILL
and defaulting to 'y' to make sure it will always
be enabled when RFKILL was enabled.
This also fixes some bugs where RFKILL wasn't initialized
and didn't respond to RFKILL key presses.

A coding error present since b43legacy was incorporated into the
kernel has prevented the driver from using the rate-setting mechanism
of mac80211. The driver has been forced to remain at a 1 Mb/s rate.

as one can see on the huge jump, it's very plausible that firmware does not report the
full 64-bit mac time, just the lower 32bit and some kinds of flags...
Therefore if we want a useful timestamp we have to emulate the high bits.

This patch makes usage of the results from disconnected antenna alg to
know how many antennas are connected.
It also synchronizes between the chain noise alg and the W/A that
disables power management during association. All the antennas must be
enables during the chain noise algorithm. Hence, power management is
restored only after the completion of the algorithm.
In the future, we will need to update the AP that we don't support MIMO
if there is only one antenna connected. We also need to update the rate
scaling algorithm.

When EEH detects an i/o error it resets the device thus it cannot be accessed.
In this case the driver needs to unload its interface only with OS, kernel and
network stack but not with the device.
After successful recovery, the driver can load normally.

Handle station IDs of transmitted packets when in monitor mode, and
remove the various anti-injection checks from the iwl4965 driver.
This makes injection work on iwl4965 and iwl5000. Tested on both cards.
Note: To inject management frames with encryption, HW crypto support
must be disabled using the "swcrypto=1" modparam (or "swcrypto50=1"
for iwl5000). Otherwise most management frames won't be transmitted.

This patch disables power save upon association and enables it back
after association. This allows to associate to AP on a radar channel
if power save is enabled.
Radar and passive channels are not allowed for TX (required for association)
unless RX is received but PS may close the radio and no RX will be received
effectively failing association.

This patch hopefully contains all necessary changes to support
firmwares for all devices up to atleast 2.13.3.0.

And this is a big win, since:
* newer firmwares are more stable and reliable than the old ones.
* no problems anymore with packages > 1399 octets (without lowering the MTU).
* monitor mode finally works on USB for more than just a few seconds.

On HSM_ST_ERR, ata_hsm_move() triggers WARN_ON() if AC_ERR_DEV or
AC_ERR_HSM is not set. PHY events may trigger HSM_ST_ERR with other
error codes and, with or without it, there just isn't much reason to
do WARN_ON() on it. Even if error code is not set there, core EH
logic won't have any problem dealing with the error condition.

of them being unifying probing, hotplug and EH reset paths uniform.
Previously, broken hardreset could go unnoticed as it wasn't used
during probing but when something goes wrong or after hotplug the
problem will surface and bite hard.
OSDL bug 11195 reports that sata_nv generic flavor falls into this
category. Hardreset itself succeeds but PHY stays offline after
hardreset. I tried longer debounce timing but the result was the
same.

I've been chasing Jeff about this for months. Jeff added the Marvell
device identifiers to the ahci driver without making the AHCI driver
handle the PATA port. This means a lot of users can't use current
kernels and in most distro cases can't even install.
This has been going on since March 2008 for the 6121 Marvell, and late 2007
for the 6145!!!
This was all pointed out at the time and repeatedly ignored. Bugs assigned
to Jeff about this are ignored also.
To quote Jeff in email
> "Just switch the order of 'ahci' and 'pata_marvell' in
> /etc/modprobe.conf, then use Fedora's tools regenerate the initrd.
> See? It's not rocket science, and the current configuration can be
> easily made to work for Fedora users."
(Which isn't trivial, isn't end user, shouldn't be needed, and as it usually
breaks at install time is in fact impossible)
To quote Jeff in August 2007

Only he add the ids anyway later and caused regressions, adding a further
id in March causing more regresions.
The actual fix for the moment is very simple. If the user has included
the pata_marvell driver let it drive the ports. If they've only selected
for SATA support give them the AHCI driver which will run the port a fraction
faster. Allow the user to control this decision via ahci.marvell_enable as
a module parameter so that distributions can ship 'it works' defaults and
smarter users (or config tools) can then flip it over it desired.

On all hardware (some Intel ICH4, PIIX4 and PIIX4E chipsets) affected by a
hardware errata there's about a 4.2% chance that initialization of the
ACPI PMTMR fails. On those chipsets, we need to read out the timer value
at least three times to get a correct result, for every once in a while
(i.e. within a 3 ns window every 69.8 ns) the read returns a bogus
result. During normal operation we work around this issue, but during
initialization reading a bogus value may lead to -EINVAL even though the
hardware is usable.

mmc_block_open() increments md->usage although it returns with -EROFS when
default mounting a MMC/SD card with write protect switch on. This
reference counting bug prevents /dev/mmcblkX from being released on card
removal, and situation worsen with reinsertion until the minor number
range runs out.

forcedeth: setup wake-on-lan before shutting down") that makes network
adapters integrated into the NVidia MCP55 chipsets fail to work in kexeced
kernels. The problem appears to be that if the adapter is put into D3_hot
during ->shutdown(), it cannot be brought back into D0 after kexec (ref.
http://marc.info/?l=linux-kernel&m=121900062814967&w=4). Therefore, only
put forcedeth into D3 during ->shutdown() if the system is to be powered
off.

Both p54pci and p54usb uses a good chunk of device specific code to
get the data from the device's eeprom into the drivers memory.
So, this patch reduces the code size and will it make life easier if
someone wants to implement ethtool eeprom dumping features.

This patch greatly reduces one of biggest memory waste in the driver.
The firmware headers provides the right values for extra head-/tailroom
and mtu size which are usually much lower than the old hardcoded ones.

There's been a patch floating around for toshiba_acpi that exports an ad-hoc
/proc interface to toggle the bluetooth adapter in a large number of Toshiba
laptops. I'm not sure if it's still relevant for the latest models, but it is
still required for older models such as my Tecra M3.
This change pulls in the low level Toshiba-specific code from the old patch and
sets up an rfkill device and a polled input device to track the state of the
hardware kill-switch.

It is obviously good for userspace to know up front which
interface modes a given piece of hardware might support (even
if adding such an interface might fail later because of
concurrency issues), so let's make cfg80211 aware of that.
For good measure, disallow adding interfaces in all other
modes so drivers don't forget to announce support for one mode
when they add it.

This patch teaches the i2c-sh_mobile driver to make use of wait irqs.
Without this patch only dte irqs are used which may lead to overruns
and cases of missing stop and extra bytes being read on the i2c bus.
Use of wait irqs forces the hardware to pause and wait until the cpu
is ready. Polling is also reworked in this patch to fix ms delay issues.
Verified with bus analyzer and tested on MigoR and AP325RXA boards.

As all the infrastructure for multiple transmit queues already exists
in the driver, this patch is entirely trivial.
The individual transmit queues are still serialised by the driver's
per-port private spinlock, but that will disappear (i.e. be replaced
by the per-subqueue ->_xmit_lock) in a subsequent patch.

Delete a couple of unused and uninteresting interrupt source mask bits:
- The receive resource underrun interrupt sources are uninteresting
because if we are in out-of-memory mode, we are already dealing with
the issue, and we don't need the hardware to remind us again that we
are out of memory.
- The LINK and PHY interrupt sources can be coalesced into one define,
since we always use them together.
- The transmit resource underrun interrupt source can be disabled since
we never activate the head descriptor of a paged skb until the
fragments are all activated, so transmit underrun during a packet
should never happen.
- The INT_EXT_TX_0 define is never used.

Currently, there are two different fields in the
mv643xx_eth_platform_data struct that together describe the PHY
address -- one field (phy_addr) has the address of the PHY, but if
that address is zero, a second field (force_phy_addr) needs to be
set to distinguish the actual address zero from a zero due to not
having filled in the PHY address explicitly (which should mean
'use the default PHY address').
If we are a bit smarter about the encoding of the phy_addr field,
we can avoid the need for a second field -- this patch does that.

Which top-level unit's SMI interface to use should be a property of

Get rid of the mv643xx_eth-internal MV643XX_ETH_CHECKSUM_OFFLOAD_TX
compile-time option. Using transmit checksumming is the sane default,
and anyone wanting to disable it should use ethtool(8) instead of
recompiling their kernels.

By having the receive out-of-memory handling timer schedule the napi
poll handler and then doing oom processing from the napi poll handler,
all code that touches receive state moves to napi context, letting us
get rid of all explicit locking in the receive paths since the only
mutual exclusion we need anymore at that point is protection against
reentering ourselves, which is provided by napi synchronisation.

If the platform code has passed us the IRQ number of the mv643xx_eth
top-level error interrupt, use the error interrupt to wait for SMI
access completion instead of polling the SMI busy bit, since SMI bus
accesses can take up to tens of milliseconds.

Since commit 81600eea98 ("mv643xx_eth:
use auto phy polling for configuring (R)(G)MII interface"),
mv643xx_eth no longer does SMI accesses from interrupt context. The
only other callers that do SMI accesses all do them from process
context, which means we can switch the PHY lock from a spinlock to a
mutex, and get rid of the extra locking in some ethtool methods.

Apparently, there are more different versions of Lenovo 3000 N100, some
of them working properly with active mux, and some of them requiring it
being switched off.
This patch applies 'nomux' only to the specific product name that is
reported to behave badly unless 'nomux' is specified.

The problem of finger tracking, i.e., when to switch focus from one
finger to another on the trackpad, has been improved by utilizing more
information from the bcm5974 chip output. This results in less pointer
hopping when many fingers are on the trackpad. In addition, a finger
counting method based on pressure information from all fingers is
introduced. Together with a pressure hysteresis window, this yields a
more stable counting of the number of fingers on the trackpad.

While doing some testing using Luca Risolia's sonix driver I noticed that
the video device did not get ACL's set to allow access by locally logged in
users, nor does it show up as a video device in lshal, causing cheese to not
see it.
This turns out to be caused by all of Luca Risolia's drivers not setting
the parent member of the video_device struct. This patch fixes this.

When using the sonixb driver in a dark room and given that the autoexposure
algorithm starts with a setting most suitable for daylight, the picture
produced by the cam may actually be 100% black leading to a avg_lum value of 0,
so an avg_lum value of 0 does not always signal an exposure settings change
(which it normally does). This patch adds a check for the really black image
case and stops dropping all frames as invalid in this case.

This patch makes gspca claim the USB-ID for sn9c101/2 cams with a TAS5110C1B
sensor even if both gspca and sn9c102 are enabled, as these cams are much
better supported under gspca (and extensively tested with gspca).
It also removes an usb-id from sn9c102 for one more unsupported bridge
sensor combo.

In the function of wait_transaction_complete when the timeout happens,
OS will try to check the status of SMbus again. If the status is what OS
expected, it will be regarded as the bogus timeout. Otherwise it will be
treated as ETIME.

The following patch (based on a patch from Stephen Gildea) fixes a
regression with the LCD brightness keys on Fujitsu P8010 laptops which was
observed with the 2.6.27-rc series (basically they stopped working due to
changes within the fujitsu-laptop and video modules). Please apply to
2.6.27-rc and acpi git.
A more complete solution for this laptop will be included in an upcoming
patch, hopefully for 2.6.28. In the meantime this restores most
functionality for P8010 users.

Commit 884525655d ("PCI: clean up resource
alignment management") changed the resource handling to mark how a
resource was aligned on a per-resource basis.
Thus, instead of looking at the resource number to determine whether it
was a bridge resource or a regular resource (they have different
alignment rules), we should just ask the resource for its alignment
directly.
The reason this broke only cardbus resources was that for the other
types of resources, the old way of deciding alignment actually still
happened to work. But CardBus bridge resources had been changed by
commit 934b7024f0 ("Fix cardbus resource
allocation") to look more like regular resources than PCI bridge
resources from an alignment handling standpoint.

The allocated RX buffer size was 64 bytes bigger than the PCI mapped
size with no good reason. If the packet was actually using the buffer up
to its limit and if the last 64 bytes of the buffer crossed 4KB boundary
then an unmapped PCI page was accessed. The fix is to use only one
parameter for the buffer size - there is no need to differentiate
between the buffer size and the PCI mapping size since the extra 64
bytes can actually be used by the FW to align the Ethernet payload to
64 bytes.

This adds basic support for the Hauppauge Nova-TD-500 84xxx series.
A future patch will allow for one aerial input to supply both tuners.
With the current code, an aerial must be plugged into each antannae input
in order for both tuners to function.

Some DVB drivers are incorrectly assuming that the size of
i2c_adapter.name is I2C_NAME_SIZE. Here's a fix.
Also change strncpy to strlcpy, as the former is error-prone (and was
indeed incorrectly used.)

1) Lower the hstart setting for all sensor by 1 so that we generate
(compressed) BGGR data just like sn9c102 does (instead of GBRG data)
2) Add support for raw bayer output in the lowest resolutions (not enough
bandwidth for higher resolutions), this should work with all sensors but
to be sure only enable it for sensors where it has been tested.

Under certain conditions sonixb compressed frame size can get bigger then
the uncompressed size (seen with 0c45:6028), so make the buffers slightly
bigger.

-the usb-id table caried several flags which were not usb-id specific but
sensor specific, add a sensor_data array and move these flag there
-fr_h_sz was being abused to store and check which bridge was being used
instead add a bridge member to the sd struct
-now that we have a sensor_data table use that to store pointers to
init_sequences instead of using switch cases on sd->sensor

cx18: Simplify queue flush logic to prevent oops in cx18_flush_queues().
If accounting of a queue is in error, logic borrowed from ivtv will cause
an oops when flushing the queues for a stream. This change greatly
simplifies the queue flush logic, and sets the queue back to sane
defaults on a flush.

This patch fixes several small issues at vivi register routines:
1) minor and n_devs should be unsigned;
2) n_devs = 0 were not properly handled;
3) if n_devs specify a high number, the driver would just roll back and
won't register any device. The proper behaviour is to keep all succeded
devices registered;
4) both n_devs and minor were using 0 as permissions. Better to have
them with 0444.
With the current patch, if n_devs specify a very large value, it will
register all possible devices. For example, on a machine without any
other V4L drivers loaded, with this patch, we will have something like:
vivi: V4L2 device registered as /dev/video0
vivi: V4L2 device registered as /dev/video1
vivi: V4L2 device registered as /dev/video2
...
vivi: V4L2 device registered as /dev/video31
video_register_device_index: get_index failed

The old Mediavision Pro Movie Studio legacy ISA V4L1 driver was found to
hang the boot during Ingo Molnar's testing of randconfig kernels. Have it
require a "pms.enable=1" kernel parameter to enable the driver when
builtin which avoids such problems.
This is a deprecated and, very likely, unused driver. Nothing changes
modular behaviour moreover.

If saa7134_init is run before v4l2_i2c_drv_init (tuner), then
saa7134_board_init2 will try to set the tuner type for devices that don't
exist yet. This moves tuner to before all of the device-specific drivers
so that it's loaded early enough on boot.

This patch adds a V4L2_CAP_SENSOR_UPSIDE_DOWN flag to the capabilities flags,
and sets this flag for the Philips SPC200NC cam (which has its sensor installed
upside down). The same flag is also needed and added for the Philips SPC300NC.
Together with a patch to libv4l which adds flipping the image in software this
fixes the upside down display with the SPC200NC cam.
