Dmitry Torokhov 1572ca2a84 Input: fix locking issue in /proc/bus/input/ handlers
input_devices_seq_start() uses mutex_lock_interruptible() to acquire
the input_mutex, but doesn't properly handle the situation when the
call fails (for example due to interrupt). Instead of returning NULL
(which indicates that there is no more data) we should return
ERR_PTR()-encoded error.

We also need explicit flag indicating whether input_mutex was acquired
since input_devices_seq_stop() is called whether input_devices_seq_start()
was successful or not.

The same applies to input_handlers_seq_start().

Dmitry Torokhov 94dfb0d633 Input: atkbd - postpone restoring LED/repeat rate at resume
We need to postpone restoring LED state and typematic settings until
keyboard is finished reconnecting upon resume. Normally driver core
and PM infrastructure takes care of proper ordering and dependencies,
but or case actual reconnect is done asynchronously from kseriod.
So while driver core thinks that keyboard was resumed and it is time
to let input core run it's resume handlers in reality keyboard is not
ready yet. The solution is to keep rescheduling work that adjusts LED
and rate settings until keyboard is fully enabled.

It happens because the new INPUT_WINBOND_CIR driver relies on new-leds
infrastructure - but does not select it in drivers/input/misc/Kconfig.
But it selects LEDS_CLASS, which confuses a number of other drivers into
thinking that all the leds infrastructure is in place.

Fix this by selecting NEW_LEDS as well, like similar drivers do.

Eventually, this whole leds infrastructure complexity should be
cleaned up, it's been going on for years.

Dmitry Torokhov 181d683d75 Input: libps2 - additional locking for i8042 ports
The serio ports on i8042 are not completely isolated; while we provide
enough locking to ensure proper serialization when accessing control
and data registers AUX and KBD ports can still have an effect on each
other on PS/2 protocol level. The most prominent effect is that
issuing a command for the device connected to one port may cause
abort of the command currently executing by the device connected to
another port.

Since i8042 nor serio subsystem are not aware of the details of the
PS/2 protocol (length of the commands and their replies and so on) the
locking should be done on libps2 level by adding special handling when
we see that we are dealing with serio port on i8042.

Ever since we switched from having a polling timer to registering IRQ

Dmitry Torokhov 1c7827ae70 Input: i8042 - bypass AUX IRQ delivery test on laptops
It seems that many laptops do not fully implement AUX LOOP command in
their keyboard controllers, causing issues with touchpad detection.
We know however that almost every laptop/portable uses a PS/2 pointing
device and, even if user disables it in favor of an external mouse,
the system will not use IRQ 12 for anything else. Therefore we may
bypass AUX IRQ delivery test when running on a laptop and assume that
it is routed properly.

Just to be safe we require the box to have good PNP data in order to
bypass the test.

There are more and more laptop requiring use of force_release quirk
for their multimedia and other specialized keys. Adding their DMI data

This patch creates a new 'force_release' sysfs attribute (that belongs
to serio device to which keyboard is attached) which can be used to set

Pavel Revak 9b2fb2da4e Input: ucb1400_ts - enable interrupt unconditionally
Sometimes, when using the touchscreen, it stops working till next restart
and the following message is printed:

	ucb1400: unexpected IE_STATUS = 0x0

The following patch retriggers the touchscreen interrupt unconditionally.
This prevents hanging of the touchscreen in case of bogus interrupt
occurence.

Marek Vasut 1700f5fde8 Input: ucb1400_ts - enable ADC Filter
This patch enables ADC filtering on UCB1400 codec by default. The
benefit from this change is mostly on some Colibri boards where
the ADCSYNC pin of the UCB1400 codec isn't connected causing the
touchscreen to jitter very badly. This change has no visible
effect on boards where the ADCSYNC pin is connected.

Stephen Kitt ec8b4b7085 Input: joydev - decouple axis and button map ioctls from input constants
The KEY_MAX change in 2.6.28 changed the values of the JSIOCSBTNMAP and
JSIOCGBTNMAP constants; software compiled with the old values no longer
works with kernels following 2.6.28, because the ioctl switch statement
no longer matches the values given by the software. This patch handles
these ioctls independently of the length of data specified, and applies the
same treatment to JSIOCSAXMAP and JSIOCGAXMAP which currently depend on
ABS_MAX.

Paul Fox c46dd1eb9a Input: hgpk - forced recalibration for the OLPC touchpad
The OLPC XO laptop incorporates a combination touchpad/tablet device
which unfortunately requires frequent recalibration. The driver will
force this automatically when various suspicious behaviors are
observed, and the user can recalibrate manually (with a special
keyboard sequence). There's currently no way, however, for an external
program to cause recalibration. We can not use the reconnect
capability which is already available in /sys because full reset of
the touchpad takes 1.1 - 1.2 secons which is too long.

This patch creates a new node in /sys which, when written with '1',
will force a touchpad recalibration; no other writes (or reads)
of this node are supported.

the RF killswitch will not be activated after suspend. This patch
definitively obsoletes the fsam7400 module which I was still needing
to enable wifi and to fix the RF killswitch suspend problem; in the

Serio ports are not being restarted any longer because resume operations

Eric Miao bab7614d6d Input: add support for generic GPIO-based matrix keypad
Original patch by Marek Vasut, modified by Eric in:

1. use delayed work to simplify the debouncing
2. combine col_polarity/row_polarity into a single active_low field
3. use a generic bit array based XOR algorithm to detect key
press/release, which should make the column assertion time
shorter and code a bit cleaner
4. remove the ALT_FN handling, which is no way generic, the ALT_FN
key should be treated as no different from other keys, and
translation will be done by user space by commands like 'loadkeys'.
5. explicitly disable row IRQs and flush potential pending work,
and schedule an immediate scan after resuming as suggested
   by Uli Luckas
6. incorporate review comments from many others

Patch tested on Littleton/PXA310 (though PXA310 has a dedicate keypad
controller, I have to configure those pins as generic GPIO to use this
driver, works quite well, though), and Sharp Zaurus model SL-C7x0
and SL-C1000.

Arnd Bergmann 08604bd993 time: move PIT_TICK_RATE to linux/timex.h
PIT_TICK_RATE is currently defined in four architectures, but in three
different places. While linux/timex.h is not the perfect place for it, it
is still a reasonable replacement for those drivers that traditionally use
asm/timex.h to get CLOCK_TICK_RATE and expect it to be the PIT frequency.

Note that for Alpha, the actual value changed from 1193182UL to 1193180UL.
This is unlikely to make a difference, and probably can only improve
accuracy. There was a discussion on the correct value of CLOCK_TICK_RATE
a few years ago, after which every existing instance was getting changed
to 1193182. According to the specification, it should be
1193181.818181...

Linus Walleij dc890c2dcd [ARM] 5544/1: Trust PrimeCell resource sizes
I found the PrimeCell/AMBA Bus drivers distrusting the resource
passed in as part of the struct amba_device abstraction. This
patch removes all hard coded resource sizes found in the PrimeCell
drivers and move the responsibility of this definition back to
the platform/board device definition, which already exist and
appear to be correct for all in-tree users of these drivers.
We do this using the resource_size() inline function which was
also replicated in the only driver using the resource size, so
that has been changed too. The KMI_SIZE was left in kmi.h in case
someone likes it. Test-compiled against Versatile and Integrator
defconfigs, seems to work but I don't posess these boards and
cannot test them.

Jeremy Huddleston 05e882f890 Input: appletouch - improve finger detection
The appletouch driver is prone to reporting multiple fingers when only
one is pressing. The appletouch driver queries an array of pressure
sensors and counts local maxima in pressure to determine the number of
fingers. It just does this on the raw values, so a data stream like:

0 100 250 300 299 300 250 100 0

actually registers as 2 fingers.

Jussi Kivilinna 9e68177ef9 Input: ff-memless - fix signed to unsigned bit overflow
When userspace sets effect->u.rumble.strong_magnitude to 0x8001 or
larger, ml_combine_effects() would always return strong_magnitude
0xffff.

Problem is that 'gain' is passed in as signed integer. Multiplying
magnitude (__u16) with gain (int) causes magnitude read as signed and
results negative value (with magnitude > 0x8000). This signed integer
is then divided and value, still negative, converted to 32bit unsigned
integer. Finally checking combine overflow min(new+old, 0xffff) gives
out 0xffff.

Fix is to simply change 'gain' to unsigned int.

Henrik Rydberg 5e5ee686e3 Input: add detailed multi-touch finger data report protocol
In order to utilize the full power of the new multi-touch devices, a
way to report detailed finger data to user space is needed. This patch
adds a multi-touch (MT) protocol which allows drivers to report details
for an arbitrary number of fingers.

The driver sends a SYN_MT_REPORT event via the input_mt_sync() function
when a complete finger has been reported.

In order to stay compatible with existing applications, the data
reported in a finger packet must not be recognized as single-touch
events. In addition, all finger data must bypass input filtering,
since subsequent events of the same type refer to different fingers.

A set of ABS_MT events with the desired properties are defined. The
events are divided into categories, to allow for partial implementation.
The minimum set consists of ABS_MT_TOUCH_MAJOR, ABS_MT_POSITION_X and
ABS_MT_POSITION_Y, which allows for multiple fingers to be tracked.
If the device supports it, the ABS_MT_WIDTH_MAJOR may be used to provide
the size of the approaching finger. Anisotropy and direction may be
specified with ABS_MT_TOUCH_MINOR, ABS_MT_WIDTH_MINOR and
ABS_MT_ORIENTATION. Devices with more granular information may specify
general shapes as blobs, i.e., as a sequence of rectangular shapes
grouped together by a ABS_MT_BLOB_ID. Finally, the ABS_MT_TOOL_TYPE
may be used to specify whether the touching tool is a finger or a pen.

David Brownell eb990b5533 Input: add dm355evm_keys driver
Simple input driver support for the events reported by the
MSP430 firmware on the DM355 EVM. Verified using the RC5
remote included with the kit; docs weren't quite right.

Some of the keycode selections might need improvement; they
can be remapped, so there's at least a runtime workaround.
(I also suspect Linux may someday merit more generic support
for RC5 based remote controls.)

These events don't distinguish key press vs release events,
so this reports both and then skips the next event if it's
identical. The RC5 remote codes include a "toggle" bit that
can help detect autorepeated keys; but this driver doesn't
bother with those nuances.

This driver relies on the drivers/mfd/dm355evm_msp.c code
for core features, including sharing I2C access to this
firmware with GPIO, LED, and RTC support.

Ben Nizette 0f751719e4 Input: omap-keypad - use disable_irq_nosync() in irq handler
disable_irq() waits for all running handlers to complete before
returning. As such, if it's used to disable an interrupt from
that interrupt's handler it will deadlock. This replaces the
dangerous instances with the _nosync() variant which doesn't have
this problem.

The use of disable_irq inside the handler for the interrupt being

Jean Delvare bf6aede712 workqueue: add to_delayed_work() helper function
It is a fairly common operation to have a pointer to a work and to need a
pointer to the delayed work it is contained in. In particular, all
delayed works which want to rearm themselves will have to do that. So it
would seem fair to offer a helper function for this operation.

Alexey Dobriyan 99b7623380 proc 2/2: remove struct proc_dir_entry::owner
Setting ->owner as done currently (pde->owner = THIS_MODULE) is racy
as correctly noted at bug #12454. Someone can lookup entry with NULL
->owner, thus not pinning enything, and release it later resulting
in module refcount underflow.

We can keep ->owner and supply it at registration time like ->proc_fops
and ->data.

But this leaves ->owner as easy-manipulative field (just one C assignment)
and somebody will forget to unpin previous/pin current module when
switching ->owner. ->proc_fops is declared as "const" which should give
some thoughts.

->read_proc/->write_proc were just fixed to not require ->owner for
protection.

rmmod'ed directories will be empty and return "." and ".." -- no harm.
And directories with tricky enough readdir and lookup shouldn't be modular.
We definitely don't want such modular code.

Removing ->owner will also make PDE smaller.

So, let's nuke it.

Kudos to Jeff Layton for reminding about this, let's say, oversight.

Jonathan Corbet 60aa49243d Rationalize fasync return values
Most fasync implementations do something like:

     return fasync_helper(...);

But fasync_helper() will return a positive value at times - a feature used
in at least one place. Thus, a number of other drivers do:

     err = fasync_helper(...);
     if (err < 0)
             return err;
     return 0;

In the interests of consistency and more concise code, it makes sense to
map positive return values onto zero where ->fasync() is called.

Phil Sutter d9bdffd210 Input: add driver for S1 button of rb532
Mikrotik's Routerboard 532 has two builtin buttons, from which one
triggers a hardware reset. The other one is accessible through GPIO
pin 1. Sadly, this pin is being multiplexed with UART0 input, so
enabling it as interrupt source (as implied by the gpio-keys driver)
is not possible unless UART0 has been turned off. The later one though
is a rather bad idea as the Routerboard is an embedded device with
only a single serial port, so it's almost always used as serial
console device.

This patch adds a driver based on INPUT_POLLDEV, which disables the
UART and reconfigures GPIO pin 1 temporarily while reading the button
state. This procedure works fine and has been tested as part of
another, unpublished driver for this device.

On parisc machines, which don't have HIL, removing the hilkbd module

Adrian McMenamin b233b28eac sh: maple: Support block reads and writes.
This patch updates the maple bus to support asynchronous block reads
and writes as well as generally improving the quality of the code and
supporting concurrency (all needed to support the Dreamcast visual
memory unit - a driver will also be posted for that).

Changes in the bus driver necessitate some changes in the two maple bus
input drivers that are currently in mainline.

As well as supporting block reads and writes this code clean up removes
some poor handling of locks, uses an atomic status variable to serialise
access to devices and more robusly handles the general performance
problems of the bus.

Peter Zijlstra ca109491f6 hrtimer: removing all ur callback modes
Impact: cleanup, move all hrtimer processing into hardirq context

This is an attempt at removing some of the hrtimer complexity by
reducing the number of callback modes to 1.

This means that all hrtimer callback functions will be ran from HARD-irq
context.

I went through all the 30 odd hrtimer callback functions in the kernel
and saw only one that I'm not quite sure of, which is the one in
net/can/bcm.c - hence I'm CC-ing the folks responsible for that code.

Furthermore, the hrtimer core now calls callbacks directly with IRQs
disabled in case you try to enqueue an expired timer. If this timer is a
periodic timer (which should use hrtimer_forward() to advance its time)
then it might be possible to end up in an inf. recursive loop due to the
fact that hrtimer_forward() doesn't round up to the next timer
granularity, and therefore keeps on calling the callback - obviously
this needs a fix.

Aside from that, this seems to compile and actually boot on my dual core
test box - although I'm sure there are some bugs in, me not hitting any
makes me certain :-)

Zoltan Devai 59bdb43769 Input: pcspkr - fix PIT lockup on some chipsets
There've been reports [1] about the sysem bell causing a hard
lockup. My machine was affected as well: any speaker output hung
the machine completely, nothing in the logs, no magic sysrq,
etc., looked like a hardware problem. Had a closer look on the
issue, and it turned out that the pcspkr module is responsible.
The cause is the bad setup of Timer 2 in the i8253 controller,
which probably hangs the whole PIT controller.

Intel datasheets [2] state that the timer registers are in an
undefined state after reset and they need to be programmed before
enabling the timer. (And enabling without programming the
frequency first doesn't make sense anyway).

I don't know which chipsets are affected (if not all), it also
depends on the BIOS whether it initializes the timer (e.g. to
beep when you start the machine).

The following patch solved the issue on my ICH6 notebook,
couldn't test it with any others, but should be safe to apply.

Nuno Lucas 2ec6f246c3 Input: usbtouchscreen - fix TSC-10 DM USB controllers without EEPROM
The usbtouchscreen module implements a driver for the TSC-10 DM USB
touchscreen controllers, but assumes a 2-byte response for the
CMD_RESET and CMD_RATE commands, when they can be only a single byte
when no EEPROM is connected.

The driver worked with an earlier controller revision, but new
revisions of the controller fail.

It seems the problem is that the early controller had the
SEL4/EEPROM-CS pin high, but the new controller has it down, making
the response different.

Without the fix, the controller would answer the single byte 0x06
(ACK), making the init fail with -ENODEV because buf[1] is 0xFF (as
initialized before).

As the single byte is the only thing we need to check it was ok, there
is no need to verify the second byte.

The [0x15 0x01] case is the NAK [0x15] response for when there is no
data in the EEPROM [bit-0 of second byte set], so I let that be, as I
don't have any controller with an EEPROM.

With this patch, both the earlier and latest controller work the same.

Note: This was previously submited as BUG #11961 [1] on the bugzilla
tracker, but rebased to version 2.6.27.4 and with unnecessary comments
and printk's removed.

Stelian Pop 09779678d1 Input: appletouch - driver refactoring
The appletouch driver has grown up from supporting only a couple of
touchpads into supporting many touchpads, which can have different
number of sensors, different aspect ratios etc.

This patch cleans up the current driver code and makes it easy to
support the features of each different touchpad.

As a side effect, this patch also modifies the 'Y' multiplication factor
of the 'geyser3' and 'geyser4' touchpads (found on Core Duo and Core2
Duo MacBook and MacBook Pro laptops) in order to make the touchpad
output match the aspect ratio of the touchpad (Y factor changed from 43
to 64).

David Brownell 93a22f8b95 omap drivers: switch to standard GPIO calls
This updates most of the OMAP drivers which are in mainline to switch to
using the cross-platform GPIO calls instead of the older OMAP-specific
ones.

This is all fairly brainless/obvious stuff. Probably the most interesting
bit is to observe that the omap-keypad code seems to now have a portable
core that could work with non-OMAP matrix keypads. (That would improve
with hardware IRQ debouncing enabled, of course...)
