Paulo Zanoni ba68e08622 drm/i915/sdvo: always set positive sync polarity
This is a revert of 81a14b4684.

We already set the mode polarity using the SDVO commands with struct
intel_sdvo_dtd. We have at least 3 bugs that get fixed with this patch.
The documentation, despite not clear, can also be interpreted in a way
that suggests this patch is needed.

Chris Wilson 5222008580 drm/i915/sdvo: Include LVDS panels for the IS_DIGITAL check
We were checking whether the supplied edid matched the connector it was
read from. We do this in case a DDC read returns an EDID for another
device on a multifunction or otherwise interesting card. However, we
failed to include LVDS as a digital device and so rejecting an otherwise
valid EDID.

Fixes the detection of the secondary SDVO LVDS panel on the Libretto

Simon Farnsworth cc68c81aed drm/i915: Enable SDVO hotplug interrupts for HDMI and DVI
I was seeing a nasty 5 frame glitch every 10 seconds, caused by the
poll for connection on DVI attached by SDVO.

As my SDVO DVI supports hotplug detect interrupts, the fix is to
enable them, and hook them in to the various bits of driver
infrastructure so that they work reliably.

Note that this is only tested on single-function DVI-D SDVOs, on two
platforms (965GME and 945GSE), and has not been checked against a
specification document.

Chris Wilson 56184e3da0 drm/i915/sdvo: Reorder i2c initialisation before ddc proxy
The ddc proxy depends upon the underlying i2c bus being selected. Under
certain configurations, the i2c-adapter functionality is queried during
initialisation and so may trigger an OOPS during boot. Hence, we need to
reorder the initialisation of the ddc proxy until after we hook up the i2c
adapter for the SDVO device.

The condition under which it fails is when the i2c_add_adapter calls
into i2c_detect which will attempt to probe all valid addresses on the
adapter iff there is a pre-existing i2c_driver with the same class as
the freshly added i2c_adapter.

So it appears to depend upon having compiled in (or loaded such a
module before i915.ko) an i2c-driver that likes to futz over the
i2c_adapters claiming DDC support.

David Härdeman 3c17fe4b8f i915: enable AVI infoframe for intel_hdmi.c [v4]
This patch enables the sending of AVI infoframes in
drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_hdmi.c.

My receiver currently loses sync when the HDMI output on my computer
(DG45FC motherboard) is switched from 800x600 (the BIOS resolution) to
1920x1080 as part of the boot. Fixable by switching inputs on the receiver
a couple of times.

With this patch, my receiver has not lost sync yet (> 40 tries).

Fourth version, now based on drm-intel-next from:
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/ickle/drm-intel.git

Two questions still remain:

I'm assuming that the sdvo hardware also stores a header ECC byte in
the MSB of the first dword - is this correct?

Does the SDVOB and SDVOC handling in intel_hdmi_set_avi_infoframe()
look correct?

Chris Wilson b5c616a754 drm/i915/sdvo: Poll command status 5 times without delay on read
The documentation says that an SDVO command takes a maximum of 15us to be
processed by the device, and that it is sufficient to read the status byte
3 times (whilst the command is still in the PENDING state) for the driver
to be confident that sufficient time has elapsed.

We err on the safe side and try 5 times before giving up.

The only question that remains: was the old behaviour derived by
experiments with real hardware?

A look into the murky history of UMS, implies that the behaviour was
accidental and the current retry mechanism was solely designed to catch
the status byte indicating PENDING with no reference to hardware
behaviour. (commit ac9181c014638dbeb334b40b4029d0ccb2b7a0fc in

If the VBIOS tells us the mapping of the SDVO device onto the DDC bus,

Waiting for a hard coded 20ms isn't always enough to make sure a vblank

Chris Wilson 8545423a91 drm/i915/sdvo: Only set is_lvds if we have a valid fixed mode.
If we have failed to ascertain the fixed mode for the LVDS panel, then
trust the pixel clock ranges reported for the connection when determing
valid modes. This makes intel_sdvo_mode_valid() consistent with
intel_lvds_mode_valid() which is also a no-op is there is no fixed mode
defined. (Since the mode is both validated by SDVO and LVDS, why are
checking against an LVDS fixed mode in SDVO...)

By only defining is_lvds to be true when we actually have an LVDS output
with a fixed mode, we avoid various potential NULL deferences where the
assumption is made that all LVDS outputs have a fixed mode.

Adam Jackson b1083333de drm/i915: Fix DDC bus selection for multifunction SDVO
Multifunction SDVO cards stopped working after 14571b4, and would report
something that looked remarkably like an ADD2 SPD ROM instead of EDID.
This appears to be because DDC bus selection was utterly horked by that
commit; controlled_output was no longer always a single bit, so
intel_sdvo_select_ddc_bus would pick bus 0, which is (unsurprisingly)
the SPD ROM bus, not a DDC bus.

So, instead of that, let's just use the DDC bus the child device table
tells us to use. I'm guessing at the bitmask and shifting from VBIOS
dumps, but it can't possibly be worse.

Tejun Heo 5a0e3ad6af include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h
percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being
included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which
in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files
universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies.

percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for
this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those
headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion
needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is
used as the basis of conversion.

  http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py

The script does the followings.

* Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that
only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used,
gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h.

* When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include
blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms
to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains
core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered -
alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there
doesn't seem to be any matching order.

* If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly
because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out
an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the
  file.

The conversion was done in the following steps.

1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly
over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h
and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400
   files.

2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion,
some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or
embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added
   inclusions to around 150 files.

3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits
from #2 to make sure no file was left behind.

4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed.
   e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab
APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually.

5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically
editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h
files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h
inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually
wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each
slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as
   necessary.

6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h.

7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures
were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my
distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few
more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things
build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq).

   * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config.
   * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * ia64 SMP allmodconfig
   * s390 SMP allmodconfig
   * alpha SMP allmodconfig
   * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig

8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as
a separate patch and serve as bisection point.

Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step
6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch.
If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch
headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of
the specific arch.

Eric Anholt 21d40d37ec drm/i915: Rename intel_output to intel_encoder.
The intel_output naming is inherited from the UMS code, which had a
structure of screen -> CRTC -> output. The DRM code has an additional
notion of encoder/connector, so the structure is screen -> CRTC ->
encoder -> connector. This is a useful structure for SDVO encoders
which can support multiple connectors (each of which requires
different programming in the one encoder and could be connected to
different CRTCs), or for DVI-I, where multiple encoders feed into the
connector for whether it's used for digital or analog. Most of our
code is encoder-related, so transition it to talking about encoders
before we start trying to distinguish connectors.

This patch is produced by sed s/intel_output/intel_encoder/ over the
driver.

Zhao Yakui 6070a4a928 drm/i915: Use a dmi quirk to skip a broken SDVO TV output.
This IBM system has a multi-function SDVO card that reports both VGA
and TV, but the system has no TV connector. The TV connector always
reported as connected, which would lead to poor modesetting choices.

Zhao Yakui 7c3f0a2726 drm/i915: try another possible DDC bus for the SDVO device with multiple outputs
There exist multiple DDC buses for the SDVO cards with multiple outputs.
When we can't get the EDID by using the select DDC bus, we can try the other
possible DDC bus to see whether the EDID can be obtained.

Zhao Yakui 6a304caf0b drm/i915: Read the response after issuing DDC bus switch command
For some SDVO cards based on conexant chip, we can't read the EDID if
we don't read the response after issuing SDVO DDC bus switch
command.

From the SDVO spec once when another I2C transaction is finished after
completing the I2C transaction of issuing the bus switch command, it
will be switched back to the SDVO internal state again. So we can't
initiate a new I2C transaction to read the response after issuing the
DDC bus switch command. Instead we should issue DDC bus switch command
and read the response in the same I2C transaction.

Jesse Barnes b01f2c3a4a drm/i915: only enable hotplug for detected outputs
This patch changes around our hotplug enable code a bit to only enable
it for ports we actually detect and initialize. This prevents problems
with stuck or spurious interrupts on outputs that aren't actually wired
up, and is generally more correct.

Fixes FDO bug #23183.

When the sdvo device is detected as SDVO-TV, we will check whether the
sepecific picture enhancement is supported. If it is supported, we will
add the corresponnding property for SDVO-TV. We will add the following
property for the SDVO-TV enhancements if they are supported:
 * Contrast/Brightness/Saturation/Hue.
 * left/right/top/bottom margin: This is implemented by using the
horizontal/vertical overscan enhancements. When the overscan
enhancements are supported, the above properties will be added. This is
to be compatible with what we have done in integrated-TV.
 * horizontal pos/vertical pos.
